What was your first PC?

I still remember mine, it was a old macintosh with a orange and black monochrome screen and the freaking 8.5' floppy bays.

That's not a Macintosh. I think you mean Apple II.

My first PC that I bought was an HP Pavilion 8750 when I was 20 years old.

it was the biggest purchase I had ever made outside of cars and car parts at that point in my life.

My first PC is my IBM PS/2 Model 25.  I still have it, and it's still used since it still does the tasks I used it for well, and can side-install the same programs on my PC via DOSBox and transfer disks between systems.  8086 8MHz, 640K RAM, not an MCA based PS/2, it's ISA.

That was a rather strange Beast. I first encountered those in JR College. A i8086 in ~1987? Couldn't IBM used a i386sx instead?

It was a cost saving computer, built to be cheap.

How cheap was it? When was the Model 25 and 30 released anyway?

You may be right, my earliest memories of it were the mid 90's, so it's been a while, if I still had it I could confirm. Thinking back it could have been the 8 or 5 inch ones, they seemed gigantic in comparison to the 3.25 inch ones, so wouldn't be surprised if it was 5.25 inch. I just grabbed the best images off google that seemed the most accurate to what I remember, it wasn't long before I upgraded to a actual windows machine so I only used it for a short time.

For me i think it was some IBM PC with Windows 3.1 back in '97 mostly used by me and my sisters for word processing and I would sometimes play Commander Keen shareware on it.

But I consider my actual first pc the one my parents handed me down in '98 which was a Packard Bell Multimedia D160 with Windows 95. Boy did I use this PC a lot! Used it all the way to 2002..mostly cus my parents weren't made of money. I remember using the Spiderman Cartoon Maker game, playing shareware game compilations cds on it, using the internet for the first time, composing music on Notation software. Good times.

I can't recall my exact first PC, but I remember I had two and I still have them stored.

First one was actually my uncle's, it was a complete IBM desktop setup with the famous IBM keyboard. It was so fun to run games on that, everything felt solid.

First real PC we had at home was a Dell desktop with Windows ME Millenium on it and some Pentium processor I believe.

Kids these days don't know how easy they have it with ultrafast SSDs, processors, a bunch of storage, etc.

My first ever: some Compaq I convinced my aunt to buy in the early 90s when my dad lived with her for a bit.  Just remember it had Windows 3.1 and some sort of specialized “launcher” software over it to sort programs more like a planner.

My first personal “I own this” unit: A 12” iBook G4 in 2005 that crapped out totally after about a year and a half and a full logic board replacement (looking back, I should’ve gone back to the Apple Store to have it checked again in case it was the logic board again and would’ve been covered)

First personal build:  I don’t remember the specs at all, but it was AMD based in like 2007 or 2008 and frequently crashed really hard (like frozen screen and a forced hard power down each time), had issues with most games I tried to play, and had a crappy CRT because the LCD I ordered was DOA and at the time Newegg didn’t do replacements.  I ended up getting scammed out of it by a former boss, which I guess was okay given that it had so many issues.

My first PC was a 386 with DOS4; it wasn't brilliant.

I soon built myself a 486 SX33 running DOS5 and Windows 3.1, the SX was easy to overclock to 66mhz but you still didn't have the (unnecessary) maths co-processor.

<Ryzen 3900x><B450 chipset><16gb 3200 Corsair Vengeance Ram><Wd Blue SN550 1tb storage><Razer Huntsman mini><32" Samsung CF39 curved monitor + 23" Samsung><240mm AIO Cooler><Nvidia GTX 1660 (boo!)>

Often seen flying around the world thanks to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

It seems I'm a bit younger than a lot of you here and got my first PC a bit later on, but my first was a HP Pavilion TouchSmart laptop in 2014, still working flawlessly to this day, even on Windows 10. It had a dual core, 4 thread i3-3217U, that only went up to 1.8GHz, with Intel HD 4000 graphics, which actually coped fairly well with most games I threw at it at the time, though it would not fare well with today's games. It also had 4GB DDR3, a 1TB HDD, and a 720p touch display. It's not as retro as a lot of the other stuff here, but still my first PC!

My first desktop was only last year, with an i5-9600KF at 4.8GHz all core, 2x8GB DDR4 @3000MHz, GTX 1660S 6GB (I was lucky to get it when I did, as even a 1660 is worth a lot now...), 512GB NVMe SSD, and a 2TB HDD.

Desktop - i5-9600KF @4.8GHz all core, MSI Z390-A PRO, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz, MSI GTX 1660S OC 6GB, WD Blue 500GB M.2 SSD, Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM HDD

Laptop - ASUS ZenBook 14 with ScreenPad, i7-1165G7, Xe iGPU 96EU, 16GB Octa-Channel 4200MHz, MX450 2GB, 512GB SSD with 32GB Optane

Old Laptop 1 - HP Pavilion 15, A10-9600P, R5 iGPU, 8GB, R8 M445DX, 2TB HDD

Old Laptop 2 - HP Pavilion 15 TouchSmart, i3-3217U, Intel HD 4000, 4GB, 1TB HDD

iPad 2018 - 128GB

iPhone XR - 128GB

Compaq circa 1989 or so with a smallish hard drive, a 5.25" floppy disk, running MS-DOS.  IIRC it had an i286 CPU and 64 MB RAM.  I remember putting a 256 baud dial up modem in it and it connected the first time to CompuServe.

Workstation PC Specs: CPU - i7 8700K; MoBo - ASUS TUF Z390; RAM - 32GB Crucial; GPU - Gigabyte RTX 1660 Super; PSU - SeaSonic Focus GX 650; Storage - 500GB Samsung EVO, 3x2TB WD HDD;  Case - Fractal Designs R6; OS - Win10
