CPU upgrade or should I wait longer (upgrading from 6700K)

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I essentially need a new CPU since my current CPU (6700K) is getting to that age and I don't think it will be up to the task for my plans ahead. I want to use the new upgrade for gaming obviously but also game streaming for friends and additionally hosting a game server off my own PC while I play on my own server while streaming, if that makes sense.*

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): My current spec is as follows:

In terms of the games I play while some of them can be resource intensive (ARMA3, Killing Floor 2, Forza Horizon 4) I don't always play the latest games. I would say the games I will be playing range from old to new but mostly on the semi older side.

 

My CPU is getting up there in age now and while it still can kick butt in some areas but i don't think its not gonna work out in the long run for what I want to do. I would like to game, stream and host a dedicated server off the the same PC simultaneously (the dedicated server for the game will only be running while I am playing, it wont be permanently running). I was looking at the 10850K (10c 20t) to pull this off:

The 10850K is cheaper and has more cores which i think will help with streaming and the dedicated server that will be running the background. Or should i rather just build a separate game hosting PC instead and stick with the 6700K for now?

That 10850K is going to have a better thermals, and as you say, more cores. The IPC improvement of Rocket Lake is so insignificant its not worth while.

Run the server off the 6700k and get your main PC the upgrade. You should be using headless client anyway if your running an Arma 3 server which will offload the AI calculations. You'll probably though wanna move at least 32GB of RAM over to the server along with storage of course.

We are at a point in CPUs where intel's offering is not that great and AMDs current AM4 lineup might be its last on that socket. If I were you, would hold on to my money until late summer.

If you want to stay on intel personally I would wait and see what 12th gen 10nm is going to be like.

Zen 3 is my preffered option if it isnt so hard to buy, it has the fastest cores in the market and more cores than Intel could offer (except X299 stuff but due to slower cores, 16 core 5950x is still faster than 18 core 10980XE).

 

Among 11700k and 10850k, 11700k's faster cores is most likely better if you're playing on your own since I dont think ARMA scales to high core counts. With server on the same PC though, 10 cores will have an advantage over 8. 10850k seems like the better choice out of the two

You don't need K Series SKU anymore to be honest, save some bucks with Locked SKU and B560 board

Non K SKU these days has really high boost clock, all you need to do is Unlock the power limit and allow it boost forever, and enable XMP and you good to go

10900F, 10700F, 11700F, is all great option, just fit your budget, no need overspend

Sorry should have mentioned I am actually going to be selling my 6700K to buy the upgrade. Also the ARMA3 server I will host will be at the most for 10 people but even 10 would be pushing it, most likely 5-6. This also goes for other games servers that I host, 10 people is mostly likely gonna be the maximum but more likely its gonna be half that (5-6).

If you are going for tenth gen then you might need new motherboard and might be ram too and check if you have enough power to run these new parts,  I will suggest to upgrade your GPU for now.

Any advice on this build? I have been told it would be better for handling multicore/multithreaded situations over the Intel CPU i listed originally. Would the 5800X Ryzen be able to handle running a game, streaming that game and also running a dedicated server at the same time for said game? If not what kind of processor would I need to pull this off?

 

Keep i mind that the game server I will be running for will be for 6-8 people, maximum being 10. I will not be hosting massive player number servers off my PC. Additionally I will only be streaming or hosting a dedicated server for the game I playing at that time. As soon as I stop playing the game the streaming stops and the dedicated server is shut down.

I'd probably change the cooler as hyper 212 might not be enough for a 5800x, you could change the mobo for an ASUS B550-A as it has a better VRM (ATX, not the mATX model) and I think the price should be the same or similar
