Thought on the replacement (new or second hand) to get closer to 144fps?

just hang on unless you dont mind paying triple what its worth. Not even kidding. RTX cards are going for $1000+ it's completely and entirely stupid to buy one right now.

The 1080 really shouldn't struggle at all with that resolution , most modern gpu's should be able to output that without issues. Are you sure your gpu drives are installed or that the monitor is to to the correct refresh rate?

Bad time to get a new GPU as there are supply shortages and prices are extremely inflated over MSRP, or pay a scalper double the price and don't get a warranty with the card.

I'd settle with a RTX 3070 or RX6800XT depending on if you care about raytracing or not.

Going to 1440p 16:9 is a lot easer to do on a GTX 1080.

To test create a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel(2560 X 1440). The resolution will show up in games and you can test the difference in frames.

144hz in desktop or games?

In desktop all GPU capable of HDMI 2.0 can support that refresh rate.

3060 Ti performs similar to the 2080 Ti...the cost difference is there but otherwise, you'll just be upgrading from a 10 to 20 series card with version 2.0 of raytracing (which will be better than Turing's performance). 3070 is a better mid-range card imo that I'd pick up anyday but no need to upgrade as I'm happy with the performance I am getting at 2560x1440 and the games I play.

Is your 1080 thermal throttling?? When was the last time you changed the thermal paste?? You're most likely out of warranty so opening the card up to change the paste won't hurt anything.

1440p ultrawide is about 25%-30% more demanding than 1440p you see in benchmarks.

Imo you should go for a 6800, 3080, or 6800xt for that resolution.

2560 will have black bars on each side just like 1920 but the idea is to test what frames you can get before spending any money.

I thought the post was about buying a new or second hand monitor of a lower resolution than 3440 X 1440.

With a wide(21:9) monitor you can emulate any resolution that is lower than it.

I would probably at minimum aim for a 3060ti or 3070 for a decent gaming experience (or 6800 from AMD).  1440p ultrawide is pretty demanding.  Maybe a 3060ti if you were just going to do esports and less demanding stuff, def a 3070 or 3080 (would be my preference) if you are going to play some demanding games.

El Zoido:  9900k + RTX 4090 / 32 gb 3600mHz RAM / z390 Aorus Master

The Box:  3900x + RTX 3080 /  32 gb 3000mHz RAM / B550 MSI mortar

problem is i only have bequiet pp10 (500), perhaps is enough?! (r3600)? Although outervision says I should be golden with 3070 - 462 recommended:

Right now, absolutely nothing. Between supplies, excessive scalping and mining, even something as old as the card you already have is quite difficult to come by, let alone anything faster.

I’d suggest getting used to cutting down on the video settings, as the situation isn’t likely to improve anytime soon.
