Hi guys!

 

Maybe It was already asked/stated, but I'd like to know for sure. What is the name/brand of that iconic screwdriver LTT uses in most of their videos? Those big colorful ones with bits inside the handle?

You're new to tools huh? Trust me, that's one of the better values on the Snap-on tool truck!

 

Snap-on tools are intended for people who depend on their tools to put a roof over their head and food on the table, they carry a basically no questions asked life-time warranty on all hand tools and a much worse warranty on power tools because they clearly out-source that production to a 3rd party but they're still solid tools. You pay for the warranty up front  when you buy the tool, that's why it's $80 and if you're just building computers that screw driver will  probably get handed down to your great grand children still working.

Well obviously new to luxury high end stuff. I'm not sure I have ever seen a single screwdriver for more than like $10.  I understand they are pro- grade but how much warranty does a screwdriver need!

If you use the screwdriver once or twice a year while building a computer/upgrading, you don't need much of a warranty. If you rely on the screwdriver to make you money every day, suddenly you don't want to buy a new one every few months/years when it breaks and potentially causes down time.

snap-on tools are a waste of money. i never once seen any tradesmen using them on jobsites i worked on.

odds are the $20 screwdrivers will work just as good if not better.

Yeah that's the kind of tool you'd get in a bundle with other tools or 'free' with a bit set or something, you'd rarely buy it on it's own as at $80 it's not a good deal. Where Snap-on excels is in their sockets and ratchets, some people like their air tools but I'm not a huge fan of them they're a bit antiquated and over priced compared to their competition. I like to joke that I bought a $1800 jacket and got a free tool box with it. If you bought the jacket by itself it's around $200-250, no one would but that by itself and the fact that they just give it away means they paid maybe $50 for it. I'm sure the cost to Snap-on for the screw driver was around $5-8 tops. They really are well made, have a tight consistent smooth ratchet mechanism, and stand up to a lot of use for a long time without failure. It probably came in some tool set that Alex procured as part of a  bundle.

I'd have to assume it doesn't ship to Europe for a sort of normal price, which is why it just shows the US price for me.

Sorry for thinking you'd be American. I didn't think the exchange rate was that high at the moment. I'm an Aussie. So mine's in AUD. But that still doesn't make sense.

I agree, my dad has had this same screwdriver for over 20 years and it works great still

I haven’t heard about it in a while, but this thread makes a pretty good argument for the screwdriver that Linus has been using recently being a pre release of an eventual ltt screwdriver.

No way would Snap-on license to be rebranded by LTT. At best they'd have to find the source that builds it for Snappy and get something similar made but not the same, see Snap-on vs Harbor Freight about the car floor jacks.

Why would you think they would? Nothing in this thread so far has suggested LTT will be selling rebranded Snap-On screwdrivers, what has been said is LTT is very likely designing their own screwdriver.
