They do it for fun. I doubt there are profits after you factor in their time.

Luke is co-owner of the holding company which handles LMG and FPM. He's pay comes from there and from being COO of FPM. Do you think talkshow guests get paid for appearing? He, and the rest of the staff, are doing it because they like doing it. Its not like Linus is holding them under some threat. I would assume that they would stop having WAN once it becomes something no one likes doing.

Oh wow, you guys so funny.

They do it for fun ... doing it because they like doing it ...

I don't disagree with those, but it's not because of that... they do it because it makes business sense.

The WAN show is a LOW EFFORT video made at the end of the work day, with fixed camera so it doesn't require camera guys, setting up prompter, complicated light setup, recording b-roll footage, closeups, editing of video, subtitling for the asian countries, it doesn't require writers to make the script and proofreaders and fact checkers to make sure the script is sane and so on

It uses up a "SLOT" in the release schedule ... Youtube likes consistency, so it works well to have 1 video released every day - by recording wan show, they don't have to spend more money and resources (people, studio time etc) to release something on Friday.

It's simply CHEAPER to produce... and it makes money from ltt merch advertised on show, Youtube ads, from sponsors in the video (some of those which probably pay some fixed amount  per thousand of views or for how many videos per month they're mentioned in the videos), they get money from youtube donations, twitch donations, youtube and twitch subscriptions

Luke is semi-permanent guest and its not like it's a burden for him ... he benefits from being "co-host"... it's in his best interest to promote Floatplane as he manages it and obviously needs to make it successful so it's not like he doesn't benefit from it.

I assume it's also Linus's interest to promote Floatplane since it's part of the group and i imagine it's long term strategic thing - as in what if youtube suddenly changes terms of service or does something really awful ... where would you go, dailymotion, vimeo... always good to have backup strategies.
