Any Tips for Job Interview

Nicnac

I applied as a doctor to a major University-Hospital in Germany. I have a job interview Tomorrow and just wanted to ask if there are any general tips for these interviews that you people might have for me.

I have the basics down concerning weaknesses, strengths etc.

feel free to throw in anything you can think of really :)

This is not my first job interview but the first in a few years that is this formal.

tia!

You managed to become a meducal doctor. You're probably way ahead of all the rest of us.

In personal experience as someone who have hired people, I always found it a good sign when the interviewed asked questions back. It shows you've read up on the employer, and it shows you're actually interested in the job.

Don't look them in the eye, don't shake hands, mumble through the mask, try to ignore the fact that it feels like you're waterboarding yourself, keep 6ft. Make the meeting super awkward as you leave by going to shake hands and then remembering you can't do that and try to find a way out of it.

At least that's what I had to do. Didn't get the job though.

Relax, they need doctors here. A foreign doctor is also nothing new here. Germans are also extremly friendly towards immigrants, so you don´t have to worry about that in the interview. A question I regularly get is "where do you see yourself in x years?".

Thanks! I have read up on the institutions current research and went through my own research I have done summarizing everything.  Am still preparing questions but I think i will ask mostly research related things.

People say I interview well.

Just be sociable. Answer every question genuinely.

Be nice.

Pretty much it.

This is huge.  I can't tell you the number of applicants who have told me they're familiar with pieces of equipment we have in the lab and I ask them questions about it and then they change their tune.  Interview is over at that point.

You're not expected to know everything but you are expected to know what you say you know.

Don't be afraid to ask questions back to the interviewer.  Research the hospital and their mission statement.  Remember you're also interviewing them.  The fit needs to be there from both sides.
