Impulse purchased a 3070, now regrets

Mister Woof

Been scouring the internet for GPUs, and finally managed to land a 3070.

Gigabyte RTX 3070 Aorus Master.

$599, and then a bundle with some other junk psu that I'll have to figure out how to manage.

That's separate.

But for $599, I think I should have waited to grab a 6800 instead.

So even though this is probably one of the highest end 3070s, and an equally high end 6800 is likely to be closer for $679, I can't help but look at the benchmarks sand see that huge performance difference.

Do you all think I should try to return this (newegg bundle, never returned anything to them before, do they have restock fees on unopened items?) or just keep it?

Would you take an expensive 3070 over a cheaper 6800?

So damned conflicted

3070 is very good gpu. If you're worry that you don't make deal of your life or best possible buy then you have different problem, but not related to your card.

You must ask yourself - is this card bad? Do you bought it because you must break some world record? Or maybe (just maybe) you want to have good GPU for games? I hope it's the second answer, because in that case you made good deal.

I just bought a evga ftw3 ultra gaming 3070 that was $579 before tax. I don’t regret it at all. I’m using it with a 34 inch 3440x1440 144hz monitor and it’s been great.

You got one of the best cards that will hold it’s value better than most of the others. I wouldn’t worry about it, enjoy the card.

3070 is only around a 35% improvement over my current 5700XT (strangely not in Valhalla for some reason, it's a wash?), and also let's me use RTX/DLSS.

6800 is around 12-15% faster than the 3070, and if I got a reference model, it would be $30 less expensive.

It's likely a comparable AIB model would be around $70 more expensive, though.

Instead of returning it I would put the card on ebay for >680 and grab myself a 6800xt/3080. I'm pretty sure on new egg you can return individual parts of a bundle so yeet the psu back to new egg and enjoy some pour soul buying your card on ebay. I don't know if I could do this morally but just don't think about that part and you'll be fine. About the expensive 3070 or less expensive 6800 ill rather have a 6800 as it preforms better but more or less a coin flip on whichever comes into stock first.

If I was replacing my 5700XT solely for upgrade reasons (need to utilize the 5700XT elsewhere because the other PCs RX 580 is just not cutting it anymore) I wouldn't even bother upgrading unless it was worth over 50%.

But that said, I need another GPU anyway, so the amount improvement isn't that important.

No, $700 with a $20 rebate card.

It would make the value $600 for the GPU and an price the PSU at around $80 extra presuming I actually get the rebate.

Taxes excluded of course.

Honestly man, I wouldn’t stress about this. At least you were able to get a 3070. I’ve had way better luck with nvidia than amd, that’s why I went with nvidia. Sure the card is slower than the 6800 but it’s not a huge difference from what I’ve seen.

So you have 1440p displays? For 1440p even rtx 3070 is more than enough. Just enjoy your card. You probably cannot even get 6800's this year if you have bad luck.

I'll trade you a 2060S if you don't like it. :P :P :P

Why not just keep it, is a good card. Sure it's not the best but do you need the best? I get by with a 2060 Super.

Yeah. I dunno. You can either return it, sell it or use it. I would the latter because I'm lazy like that. You'll just have to weigh the pros and cons of your options. You can have 35% more performance now or with some hassle a bit more than that later.

Yeah, I've been hunting for 3080s but NEVER been able to get one. I really wanted a 3080 for the past two months and rarely being able to even get one in my cart, and usually failing during checkout.

I managed to get this and clicked buy, thinking it would error our like it usually does.... But it went through LOL. And I stewed over it so long that I can't even cancel the order anymore.

I'm a bit perturbed about the AC Valhalla numbers.

In his game the 3079 isn't really faster than my 5700xt at all, based on benchmarks.

Like wtf lol

Although that's an FE card; iirc the Aorus Master should be a tiny bit quicker. Still, odd to see this one favor RDNA so much I guess.

I have better idea, dear guys who always counting every FPS/$.

Let OP wait much longer, maybe 20 years, and buy NVidia XRTX Z60090 Turbo on PCI-E x16 gen 8. It will be probably much better GPU and really good deal.

Stop confusing OP about what he should do or not. He should be happy that he have pretty good GPU.

That doesn’t make any sense. I had a 2080 super in my pc before I got this 3070 and I noticed the fps difference right away. Seems like games I would dip hard in I power thru it now.
I don’t have Valhalla so I can’t compare, I would if I could tho
