YouTube down worldwide.

It seems Youtube have been experiencing problems worldwide.

 

The only update from YouTube is via Twitter @TeamYouTube

However, speculation is already rife that this is another DDOS attack as happened in 2018 By ‘The Ghost Squad’. In this case it has yet to be seen what the cause is.

 

It is amazing how we take for granted that YouTube will be working. For such a network to go down worldwide something major has gone wrong and with the distributed nature of the service it does seem likely external forces are at play. With subscription services available on the platform many users are complaining already via Twitter either asking for compensation or worried about their personal data. Always fun to see the herd gather pitchforks drawn when things like this happen. Also fun watching the memes appear already in the usual places. Well be flooded by them in the next few hours.

I can confirm this was the case for me as well. I live around the Houston, TX area. The issue was with the website and within the iPhone app too.

The brief outage forced me to be productive for half an hour. How dare YT make me do something useful with my life!

Yeah, it lasted about 30~45 minutes.

Not sure if it was worth making a tech news thread on this though. Outage happens.

For those curious as to what it looked like: The website and the phone app displayed a list of videos just fine. It was only when you went to play them that you got the gray sad face screen and some random error message.

Many news outlets (Variety, Engadget, Most Uk newspapers etc) are reporting it so why not on LTT, At least here there will be some sensible discussion. 
 

For me I wonder what the cost of even an hours, outage as reported by some papers, costs such a media giant in advertising revenue. I would hazard a guess it is more than a few beer tokens.
