Screwed by Amazon.ca

TwistedBlizzard

Hi all,

In September, my dad moved from the UK to Canada for work. One of the first things he wanted to do was build a gaming PC so we can have something to do together on the weekends. After getting a Canadian phone number and payment method sorted, he went to Amazon.ca and with a little help from me picked out some reasonably priced parts for his build. Shortly after checking out the order, he recieved an email that his order had been cancelled and that suspicious activity had been detected on his account. When he logged back in, all of his info had been reset to the details he was using in the UK. He reentered all of his new info and ordered the parts again. Once again, Amazon sent him a message notifying him of a cancelled order and suspicious activity. He is also now down roughly 3000 CAD.

Fast forward a week or so and parcels start arriving.  He now has parts of both orders with a lot of stuff in duplicate but still no sign of the RAM or GPU. He went to a local PC shop and picked up the same RAM as he attemped to order but has had no luck (yet) finding a GPU.

He's been in near constant contact with Amazon support who are currently telling him there is no way to return/refund the duplicate items sent to him as there is no record of them on his account. Can anyone in Canada please suggest how to proceed and maybe where my dad might be able to pick up a decent(ish) GPU for a reasonable price in the Owen Sound area of ON?

They have been the best for decades, I remember their first store.

Did the OP use the same credit card?

You can try to contact credit card company and see what you can do.

It was a brand new credit card. The Amazon purchase was one of the first purchases on it afaik. I have suggested going through the credit card company but he wants to try and avoid any further complications with Amazon.

I wonder how they linked your Amazon UK and Amazon Canada together. The same name wouldnt be enough, I was thinking maybe it was the same cc you used on both accounts.

If you werent charged for parts, you might be charged for them later.

It was the same email address between the two accounts that allowed them to be connected. He's already been charged for all the parts, including the ones that weren't delivered.

as @dilpickle said i would report it as fraud since there is no records, you had no intent of ordering the products twice, and this is a fault on amazons behalf, you didnt even receive all of your order

Well those are the only 2 parties that could possibly resolve this so not sure what else you would do.

Sounds like that's the only way forward. I'll let him know, cheers. Knowing him, he'll probably keep trying to go through Amazon's customer support...

i wouldnt deal with that shit, it's literal fraud, if he wants to keep going through amazon support tell him to give them a demand for a refund on what was not received, and to return all duplicated items or he's reporting fraud. I can see how this would be messed up by amazon, but they cant not refund you, they need to admit their mistake and move forward.

There are consumer agencies that can help you out as well as Obutsman or whatever its called, I tried Obutsman once and for me was a joke, wasnt worth the time for the money involved. Also, here in Canada you can also tell the news about your escapades and see if they will help your cause. They do those on slow news days.

He was charged for the orders and the items shipped... But it's not on his account?

If your dad has the original emails, he should have an order number in there as well. Even it was cancelled, Amazon should technically have that on file.

If they still like to pretend it doesn't exist, he can just say he will issue a fraud request on his credit card and get his money back that way (ALL of it), especially for the items he never received...

What's amazon gonna do, block his account? They admitted to not having anything about these orders on his account.

(They still may block his account/credit card on future purchases though, because accounting would be dealing with that shit and block that card from future usage regardless of the order)

Something is definitely off here. I've used Amazon for many, many years, and they're always ready to help at the drop of a hat.

Did your dad use a UK credit card on the Amazon account? If so, I'm not surprised it got flagged.

Why would he try and do the exact same thing that caused his account to be flagged? He should have at least talked to an Amazon rep.

It's a few simple clicks of a mouse button.

He's not "down" the amount. Amazon isn't going to take the money and run, and if he gets duplicates as you've stated he can simply return them.

I have a feeling we're not getting the whole story.

If the orders doesn't exist on his account, he can't just "return" them, though. If he were to ship back the items without creating a proper return label for them, it will just get lost in the amazon return warehouse without any idea of who sent it back and who to refund.

So he would first need to get Amazon to acknoleged the previous orders and reinstate them. If they were just "cancelled", they should still be visible in "Your orders" > Cancelled orders.

Unless they were completely purged out...

I don't buy it. They said that it was canceled, it wouldn't simply just disappear. He just has to go higher up, or try harder with customer service.

If all else fails, open a claim with the credit card company.
