RX 570/580 vs GTX 1650S: Best GPU to pair with an i5-3470?

Will it not get bottlenecked by the 3470?

Pretty evenly matched, you could grab an i7 for higher thread count games, but overall, you are at the max.

Hey there! My low end system consists of an i5-3470, 12gb (8gb + 4gb sticks at 1333mhz), and a GTX 1050 2GB (which I plan to sell along with my GT 1030)

I tried playing Control and Little Hope and got sub 60fps even on the lowest settings. I was thinking of getting the 1650S but it might end up getting bottlenecked by the CPU, so I'm thinking of going for an RX 570/580. What do you recommend?

Umm considering the rest of your specs I dont think your PSU would be able to handle those cards.

Which PSU do you have?

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

rx 570 will be a pretty okay gpu for running games on medium and getting more than enough fps

May I ask if it would be better than the 580. What are your thoughts about the 1650 Super?

So which one is yours exactly?

that's good. I would not worry about it.

RX 580 because of 8GB Vram. 1650 Super will have Vram problems in some use cases already. The 570 has better value.

Check your current gpu's G3D mark https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html and then you can just see the % higher performance you will get.

If you hit 60fps, you can increase settings till you have say 30fps, then with double G3D mark of the new gpu you will have 60 fps again.

If you will upgrade soon, or accept the vram problems, the 1660S does have the higher performance.

For reference, playing NFS:Payback at 4k always uses more than 9GB, so gl.

The longer you plan to hold the GPU, the more Vram you will need. Once you hit VRAM limits, you will start to get stutters. For exmaple I use to have a gtx 670 at 2GB, I held it for 6 years until it died. I would restart Far cry 5 every 2 hours to clear the Vram. Have fun lol

I don't think it will be bottlenecked, depends on what resolution you're playing at and at what quality, I'd suggest you read this one on that matter https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1256335-i7-477k-42ghz-sapphire-rx5700xt-pulse-bottleneck/?do=findComment&comment=14106232

As for performance, if I recall correctly, they the 1650 Super trade blows with the RX580 with a lower power draw albeit with a $10-$20 price premium (I should emphasize, that price is different from market to market, so check yours, that one is taken from the video) but it's up to personal preference if power draw matters for you or not. A RX 570/580 would be fine but you'd probably be near the limit of your CPU. I'd go for a 580, unless you're strapped for cash though.

As jeanluckpiccard pointed out, if your cpu is at 100%, upgrading the gpu will not increase fps. You can still use the extra performance for reduced latency, higher details/res.

However that is unlikely unless you saw it. Only game I saw maxing my i5 2310 was bf1 (bf5 maybe)

In some light games like DOTA 2 and Valorant the cpu is having trouble so I'm nit expecting much from it. I'll check it out on Afterburner and post a reply tomorrow!

Sounds good. You could get a higher end GPU if you plan on upgrading in the near future, but if your CPU is maxed out, I'm afraid a higher end GPU won't improve your frame rates. Your CPU 'feeds' the data to your GPU to process, so that would be your limit.

playing on 1080P?

try looking for a 2nd hand 980, 980 TI, 1060 6GB

980 TI will be a bit bottlenecked but if you get a good deal its worth it

but idk about that psu with a 980 TI, you'll probably have to switch it for a new one

if youre playing on 4k you can even get a 2080 :)

the bottleneck will be small at 4K

still there, but small

Don't. There is only a very minor difference. I am still still running a 3770 non k (had  3470 before) paired with 2060 (1060 before) and I am severely CPU bottlenecked. Just get a 5600X or the Intel equivalent, it is time to move on. ;) If you really cannot afford a platform change, something in the neighborhood of 570/580 or 1060/1650s is fine.

Well, for now, me and my brother are sharing the PC. I've saved enough to buy a new PC this Christmas (R5 3600 with 1660Super bcs of budget), so I wanted to give this to my brother but not leave it like it is, he plays a lot of games too.

Btw, should I consider getting a used rx 580? I heard they (and the 570) were used extensively for mining, but the new 580s still cost $200 here and the used ones sell for half.

Used 580 seems to be a good idea for an aging system like this. If you do not like the risk involved with used hardware go for 5500xt or 1650s.

In most of the heavy games (Control and Little Hope) I've played, the CPU usage would be from 50% - 60%. Would the 580 fit this fine?

No. It's nearly a decade old at this point, a $90 Ryzen 3 3100 would destroy it in games.

Here's a sample pic of Apex Legends at 1080p on lowest. Would it matter if I upgrade to an RX 570 if both the CPU and GPU are maxing out?
