Ryzen 5 5600X Cooling

Hello guys.

I'm planning to buy a Ryzen 5 5600X when it comes out tomorrow but i have a question. Will the stock cooler that will come with the 5600X have thermal paste applied or included?

What do you guys think?

It would only make sense for it to have thermal paste preapplied, so to answer your question, yes.

I will have to assume they are going to do what they have been doing with all the Ryzen stock coolers beforehand, which all had thermal paste included (pre-applied) already,

I'd question the purchase of a 5600X before I worried about the Thermal Paste.  6 cores for $300?  No thank you.

 

I did that in 2017.  Not 2020.

If I was buying right now or very soon?  Probably 3700X or stretch to the 5800X.  I'd want 8 cores, unless they can prove that 6c can handle things or folks are looking at a fast upgrade cycle rather than having it last 5 years.  

 

Frankly I am disappointed that we're still at the 6/12 point for $300.  I would have had the 5600X come out at $249 at most, if I was AMD (tho I have NO idea of their R&D Costs which likely play a massive role in the pricing).  I'd go after market share like a hoarder.

the 5600x is likely to be better than the 3700x at everything, thanks to the ipc increase.

as for pricing, they will probably release a non-x 5600 at some point, closer to $250.

as for market share, I think they are doing pretty well.

in fairness, the 5600x should be as good as or better in every workload and games than any basically any previous 8 core, ever. assuming leaks are even a little accurate. it's certainly a leap from previous ryzen pricing but amd knows people will pay exorbitant prices for maximum performance.

Doesn't the 3600 prove that 6 cores can handle things? Nothing has changed.

Except that we're moving forward and Consoles, etc.  6 cores can handle things NOW.  I am hoping the comments above hold true, that the newer 6cores are even better, since the workloads will only get more robust.

 

It's the same thing that happened to 4 core chips, sure they are good still for some things, but I don't buy PC parts for what's out now.  But for what may be out in 3-5 years.

I'm still rocking a 4c8t 6700k processor and I haven't experienced any issues. Saying you need 8 cores is kind of ridiculous as of now. Though I am also looking to upgrade within the year to a new rig.

newer consoles will have 8 zen 2 cores, but theyre clocked much lower than typical desktop equivalents. if theyre clocked under 3ghz (think its closer to 2.5) i'd expect consoles' multicore capabilities to be on par with a stock 3600. considering that a 3100/3300x is pretty capable atm, a 5600x should be similarly so.

If the Ryzen 5600x comes with any stock cooler, it will have thermal paste pre-applied.

If there is no CPU cooler included...well obviously no thermal paste...

 

For an example, something like the Ryzen 9 3950X does not come with a stock CPU cooler, so you'd need to buy yourself one separately.

A small amount / tube of thermal paste is included WITH the CPU cooler that you buy.
