perfectly normal and expected temps

running 3900x on dark rock pro 4, idle temp is ~53c, and it spikes (probably why your fan ramps)

under full load cinebench R20 it hits 77-79c

my ambient is 24-26c, depending on time of day

that said, i undervolted mine to 1.1v, so load temp is 66c stabilized, and no spikes during idle, so no fan ramp nonsense.

yeap, as long as load temps are fine

I'm using a be Quiet dark rock slim with my ryzen 9 3900x and am idling around 54c.

Under full load for 10 minutes (aida64) I get up to 81c hottest core, and I'm still at 4.2ghz so not throttling, but the higher than I was used to idle temps have me a little concerned. Is that normal for a ryzen chip, or should I take off the cooler and check how my thermal paste spread out?

My fans are also ramp up a bit on the normal profile even while idling. Am I safe to change the curve so they only ramp up around 60-65c?

I don't have too much experience with that cooler so I can't comment on if those temps are normal, but for the fan curve, that part is up to you. If you want to have a quieter system, you can have the fans ramp up at 60-65C. Personally I prefer lower temps over noise since I am usually wearing headphones anyway so I have mine start ramping up at about 45-50C, but like I said as long as you aren't waiting till 80C or something high like that to start ramping up the fans, you should be fine with whatever fan curve you prefer.

What's your ambient temp, and what are you using to measure temperature?

The Dark Rock Slim isn't really meant to power super high end chips. So. You need to take that into consideration.

Great, thanks for the info.

I upgraded from an Intel chip which idled at 30c so a 20c idle jump was a little disconcerting
