IF you plan to buy a 3080 for 1080p...

far cry is extremely cpu intensive so its difficut to talk about games like that, but yea I understand what you are saying.

But 1080p 3080 is completely viable imo when ur aiming for super high refesh rate and low cpu intensive games, because i mean face it 240hz is not gonna really be any good at all in a slow movement game like farcry or witcher 3 or even assassins creeds is it. Which is why I always max them for eyecandy. But if you remember the 240hz market they are very useful (or so the limited benchmarks so far show).

But we will find out soon enough.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for eSports title FPS.  I did see Overwatch was hitting the 300 FPS cap on a 3080 which made me wonder about 360Hz monitor viability a bit, lol

If you read one of nano's earlier comments, he say he is unable to hit 144hz in any games with his 8700k.

Hey there...i came back, just to point out that i never said ''ANY'' game...i said ''MANY'' games...it's just one letter...but one that makes a huge difference overall i think 🤨

well your title reads 'if you plan to buy a 3080 for 1080p...' then you say 'just dont'. This is your ultimatum in itself.

You cant even say its like '90 percent of games', because esports games are definitely waay over 80 percent of players lol. Its fine dw, everyone can say dumb things at times.

(this isnt a true statistic i have a source for, but im just estimating based of the number of games on the top of steamcharts which would greatly be benefited by 144/240/360hz displays. True percentage is probably way higher)

So whats this whole thread about? My current i7-8700K and GTX980 get 50fps in RDR2 on lowest settings 1080p. Why wouldn't I upgrade to a 3080 when in benchmarks it's showing RDR2 getting 160fps on highest settings 1080p?

I am quite lost why people wouldn't get a 3080 to play 1080p? There's clearly insane improvements.

For RDR 2 it should be fine.

Here is RDR 2 at 1080p on Ultra with a 2080 ti and a i7 8086k at 5ghz. The GPU is at 97% and the power limit looks good. There is overhead for more GPU in this game. With these settings.

With the Hardware Unboxed settings the GPU is down to 76% and the power limit is well below 100%. A 3080 is not going to improve these frames much on this 6 core CPU at these settings.

This is why it is a good idea to upgrade to a 1440p monitor with a 3080.

This is with the Hardware Unboxed settings at 1440p. As you can see the frames are about the same as 1080p but the usage is closer to the ultra 1080p.

If you could please share the link to the 1080p 160fps bench. I would like to see what CPU they used to get it.

NVIDIA said 1.5x the 2080 Ti

They only compared to the 2080TI in one section, and it was for raytracing and DLSS performance only. Everything else was compared against a 2080 non-super.

Did  you even watch the LTT review? Linus himself said in the first 3 minutes that he thought the FPS is going to go up by 1.5 times so I have no idea what you are talking about. Everyoen thought so and that is exactly why everyone was selling their 2080 Ti off, not because they thought htey're gonna get better ray tracing performance.

The truth is that NVIDIA bullshited us and that is a fact.

The FPS is barely better than the 2080 Ti and currently I am extremely curious about the 3070 benchmarks.

If they lied about the 1.5 then they probs also lied about the 3070 being as good as a 2080 Ti which we can already confirm with the benchmarks ourselves using logic. The 3080 got something like 20 FPS in some games more than the 2080 Ti so how much would the 3070 get which is meant to be as fast/faster? I have a feeling it is going to be scoring 5-10 FPS less than the 2080 Ti and certainly not more.

That people sold their cards is not Nvidias fault, and besides... waiting for proper confirmation is always the key.

That the fps is " barely " better than a 2080ti...i strongly disagree. What test did you gather that info from?

The thing of common sense. If the 3080 is not 1.5x better than a 2080 Ti then what proof do we have that the 3070 is the same performance as a 2080 Ti? Instead of 1.5x it's more like 1.25 so essentially the 3090 will be 1.5 times better than a 2080 Ti and the 3070.. who knows but I am confident that it is actually going to be marginally worse than a 2080 Ti.

You cannot simply drag it over one single mathematical 1.5X better. This X times better is a generalisation, not an exact science, since different titles demand different amounts of performance.

If you feel the card is less than it is, look at Gamer  Nexus´s benchmarks, or Jay´s. They are pretty clear.
