The irony is the new round has a lot in common with what they changed from. Some of those were actually semi or 3 round burst, no full auto, because the weapons were more or less uncontrollable that way with the large round.  It was also an issue with the m14.  I get that the big round is better in open desert, but it effectively rehabilitates the smg because of the auto fire thing.  Maybe some sort of p90 round for that.  One of the main points behind the big round is it can shoot through modern body armor which a .556 round can’t reliably do.   I don’t know if a p90 round will do that or not.  It’s even smaller than a .556, but it’s supposed to have armor penetration capacity with that straight angle tumbler round.
