Is a 600w PSU enough for a 3080?

nvidia lists 350 watts for the 3090, and 320 watts for the 3080. Usually their spec sheets for that stuff are pretty accurate.

 

Unless you're running a pretty big CPU like a threadripper 32 core, you should have plenty of juice. A Ryzen 5 3600 is sub 90 watts for peak loads, a Ryzen 7 3700X is barely over 100 watts. The rest of your system will consume less than 100 watts altogether.

that depends on ur cpu, 600w isn't enough for a 10700k/10900k+3080, zen 2's probably too slow (but 600w will be enough), so all eyes on zen 3 and its power draw.

i'd say test it out first, u'd need to oc ur 10700k to max and MAX load on both of them (pretty rare), then u can choose to switch if u see instability. My gut says you'll be fine.

The cards always pull more than they say they do...

 

The partner cards definably pull more, a lot more especially the high end models with the custom PCBs...

what you need to check is the quality of the components and the setup...is it a single rail PSU and how many amps it can push on the 12v rail.

Also the cooling and fan on the unit is very important if you intend to run it higher than like half the power most of the time for example.

If you ask for my opinion, I suggest at least 750W PSU. I'm using Gygabyte G750H 80PLUS Gold 750W semi-modular PSU, my Vega 64 draw about 300W without OC and draw 330W if OC, so I guess if the power draw are what they have reported, I believe you might need to upgrade.

 

I'm peaking at about 600W while performing CPU and GPU (with both of them overclocked slightly) intensive task together (rendering Full HD video using Cyberlink PowerCreator 15). Although 600W will be adequate for my setup, but I took 750W PSU just to give more headroom for other stuff, such as phone charging, more RGB blings, case fans, and others.

And what temp the PSU is rated at... The best ones are rated at 50C....

 

And continuous power, not max power...

 

Single or Multi Rail is debatable however, I tend to think with the higher wattage units it matters more for added safety.

 

All depends on the quality of the PSU in the end.

Yeah, my current setup pulls over 660W, both GPU and CPU combined etc.... Total system power...

That maybe true of at least the partner cards, but honestly I don't think I've ever seen a partner card perform tangibly better than reference boards. Drawing more power yes but not more frames.

 

 

They all overclock about the same unless we start getting into xoc cards and ln2. 

 

The reference 1080ti overclocked just as far as the ftw3 hybrid I have now. Biggest difference is better cooling on partner cards.

The 2000 series was MUCH better than the 1000 series....
