PSU for my build

ice856

Right now I'm using a very old AMD FX6300 pc so I'm planing to buy a new pc when i have the budget

After watching LowSpecGamer video i came with this part list:

  • AMD Athlon 3000G
  • MSI MEG B550M Bazooka
  • Corsair Veng LPX 2x8GB PC25600
  • Seasonic S12III-650 650W - 80+ Bronze Certified
  • Asus Optical drive
  • MSI Gaming Case MAG Forge 100R Tempered Glass

Current Upgrade plan :

  • GPU : Sapphire RX5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 NITRO+ OC
  • Processor : AMD Ryzen 5 3600/4xxx

I plan to upgrade it with the part on the bottom later when i have more funds and it may take a while, maybe 1 or 2 years

I'm concern with the PSU. can it handle the Ryzen 5 3xxx/4xxx and RX5700 XT? And i also need a recommendation for the case similar pricing with Optical drive bay since i still use and buy cd and dvd.

PC Spec :

Processor : AMD Ryzen 5 3400G  ; Motherboard : MSI B450 A-Pro MAX ; RAM : Corsair Vengeance LPX White 2 x 8Gb

GPU : Sapphire RX 5500 XT 8GB Pulse ; PSU : Cooler Master MWE Gold 750W, 80+Gold ; SSD : Samsung 860 EVO 250GB ; HDD 2 x WD Blue 1TB 3.5" ; Toshiba 1TB 2.5"

The Athlon (or any 3000 series APUs, or other older chips in general for that matter) will not work with B550.

I wouldn't pair an S12III with a 5700XT.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

that's not a great psu. check the PSU tier list in my signature.

and as @AndreiArgeanu mentioned, get a b450 board instead. or, instead of the athlon, get a ryzen 3200g

Additionally B550 motherboard cost more compared to B450's.

Here's the cpu support for B550 motherboards. Also if your budget allows it you might want to try to get a 3200G and perhaps try to cut prices elsewhere. The 3000G wouldn't  be much of an upgrade over your current configuration however the 3200G, with a potential GPU upgrade in the future is going to provide a much bettter experience.

Based on your suggestion here's my revised build

B450 Build :

  • Ryzen 3 3200G
  • MSI B450 Pro M2 MAX
  • Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX PC25600 16GB (2X8GB)
  • Seasonic GM 650 80+ Gold
  • MSI Gaming Case MAG Forge 100R Tempered Glass

I don't think I'm going to use B550 is too expensive so i just go with B450, and i can probably add a GPU maybe an RX580 Pulse from sapphire

PC Spec :

Processor : AMD Ryzen 5 3400G  ; Motherboard : MSI B450 A-Pro MAX ; RAM : Corsair Vengeance LPX White 2 x 8Gb

GPU : Sapphire RX 5500 XT 8GB Pulse ; PSU : Cooler Master MWE Gold 750W, 80+Gold ; SSD : Samsung 860 EVO 250GB ; HDD 2 x WD Blue 1TB 3.5" ; Toshiba 1TB 2.5"

The B450 Pro M2 Max is a tier E and it barely made it into the category, it also only has 2 ram slots, I'd suggest getting the asrock b450 pro 4, it's a tier above the B450 Pro M2 Max and it's either cheaper or costs the same, in the US or UK. It also has better VRM cooling, compared to the non existent cooling on the MSI one and it has more and better expansion and has 4 ram slots instead of 2. Any B450 Pro4 will do, there isn't a difference in the power delivery.

How About MSI B450-A Pro MAX?.I think the msi one looks better and on a higher tier with small price difference than the asrock one. and also what is the different between B450 and B450M?

make sure it's the msi b450-a pro max, not the msi b450m-a pro max.

they have very similar names, but are very different.

usually the b450-a pro max is more expensive than the asrock pro 4, and only really needed if you plan to upgrade to a ryzen 9 in the future.

the pro4 is good enough for a ryzen 5 or 7.

That board is pretty decent.

It signifies it being mATX, or ATX.

Usually they are more or less the same board, but shorter.

However the B450m A-Pro is a much worse pick compared to the B450 A-Pro due to its non-excistant VRM heatsink and inadequate VRMs.

I'll make sure i get the B450-A Pro MAX and also the price different is equal to 8 USD more than the pro 4 which is ok for me.

how about the ram that i pick? Its Corsair vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3200MHz is this enough for gaming?

Yes ram is good. Any 2x8 kit that is 3200C16 is good.
