I like how you throw out all these high specs but stay only at HDR 600 because asking HDR 1000 would be too ridiculous :D

holy shit $3500?

I'm willing to bet it sure as heck isn't 3500$ fast. and packed into a proprietary form factor with prorietary software whos support will disappear in 2 years leaving you with a laptop that has a hardware conflict with a new windows update and no support to fix it thus bricking it.

Spend 500 on a laptop , and 3000 on.... something that wont be in a landfill in 2023

"miniLED full array local dimming" is sure a slew of marketing terms that mostly leads to a bloomy mess...

 

Local dimming I can get behind, but the "full array" part makes it sound like each pixel has its own light source.
Though, "local dimming" could also be done with edge lighting, but then just call it "2D local dimming" instead... (And I don't think LTT is "wrong" in using the industry term, I think the whole display industry has just picked a stupid term...)

 

Other than that, this seems like a competent laptop to be fair.
A bit on the expensive side, separate mic and headphone jacks is a very nice addition, as well the rather large abundance of ports in general.
Though, the SD card slot should have been full sized... And storage internal could have been more nicely executed. (Like why do we need to take the computer to bits just to add more storage?!...)

I have this laptop (I purchased it on pre-order) and I can confirm everything Linus said here. But there are two more things that are driving me crazy. The first one: it gets stupidly hot! The CPU goes very easily above 90°C, during rendering in Premiere Pro I saw 101°C (that's 214°F, for reference) in HWINFO before the laptop shut itself down. Forget to do some medium-heavy task with your notebook on your lap, it will become uncomfortable really soon. The second thing is HDR. Turning the "Use HDR" slider ON in Windows Settings causes the hole Windows interface to lag, even opening the Start Menu or moving folders around. Can someone confirm this behavior?

The irony of this laptop is through the roof: it not only falls short of the creator label, it's actually pretty terrible for creating visual content due to wildly inconsistent colour accuracy.

 

For that matter, Windows' problems with colour on built-in displays make this a pretty good ad for a 16-inch MacBook Pro. At least there you know your output should be accurate and consistent without much if any fiddling.
