Why not? More power, more better. Not everyone needs a dedicated video card. If you are just mainly doing CPU bound tasks, it actually makes a lot of sense. Also great for system builders, OEMs, etc.

Be sure to @Pickles von Brine if you want me to see your reply!

Wouldn't it make the R5 series cpus pointless?

Usually Apu is for low budget, so most probably 4c/8th with Apu. If you are on the market of 8/16 you most probably invest in GPU as well. Only reason for Apu on that category is trouble shooting

Why would it?

Intel has technically always had APUs. I imagine these would be more expensive than the non APU SKUs as well.

It has already been confirmed there will be 4c/8t to 8c/16t APU.

In Intel's case their igpus was always not suitable for gaming but always optimized good for Adobe Premier pro, but ryzen wasn't optimized for that.

If ryzen pushed out a 8c/16t apu it kill the 6/12 cpus for 1080p budget gaming

How does adding a 6c/12t kill 6c/12t?

Especially since its just the same products we allready had.

The 4700G is coming with a vega 8 igpu that's like having a rx570-580, you're saving the price of a gpu. A 1080p apu system without a gpu.

Vega 8 Is slightly behind a 550 lmao

Its an apu

Not the largest thing and will never beat a recent decent gpu with it's dedicated silicon.

What's the 140 dollars ?

The 2600 ?

Well fun fact. The 1600 af is just a lower binned 2600, it didn't replace anything.

For the small niche of people that wouldn't be able to budget for a budget dGPU.

just because a "better" product stack exists, doesn't mean that a lower tier can't exist. unless you're saying the R3, R5 and R7 lines dont need to exist when the R9 chips exist

Not a 580

Which is significantly faster than both the 550 and the Vega 8.

But why?

You expect the 8 core APUs to replace the 4 core ones at the same price?

Not it wouldnt....

  1. Price
  2. IO
  3. 6 core with SMT will still be competetive
  4. Most AMD cpus drop in price over time. Meaning that the 3600 will continue to be a good "budget" offering
  5. 8 core renoir wont replace the 3400G price to price.
