Do you gamers get massage or do special stretch exercise?

Rakanoth

Online competitive games burden your body. Your shoulders, neck, arms etc. might still a bit stiff. They might ache. Does this happen to you? How do you deal with it? Do you get massage therapy from professionals? Do you daily exercise?

They won't burden you after 6 hours straight gaming then spending the next day being active, if you are sitting there stuffing your face with cheeto's, drinking 10 gallons of energy drinks and raging at getting PWNT by some noob EVERY DAY then you are clearly in for some problems.

The only time I've gotten a massage was for my back problem. I wouldn't really bother if you are just sitting at a desk, your body simply isn't made to be at a desk for hours.

Make sure your posture is correct:

- Feet flat on the floor

- Knee at 90 degrees

- Straight back

- Eye level with the top of the monitor.

- Keyboard close to desk (So you don't lean over to reach)

Other than correct posture, you really aren't using any muscles when gaming, its not a sporty activity.

So I have this habit of crossing my legs when I game. It doesn't matter if I'm on the couch or a computer chair. Doing so not only feels natural but allows me to rest my arms on my legs for added stability. It makes a big difference when using a controller. I can tell that I play better with the stability. With m/k it is easier to get away with resting my wrist and/or arms on the desk but I still feel better cross legged.

The bad thing is that I end up very sore and have to straighten my legs every 40 minutes or so because they start to hurt. Idk. I guess I can't win now matter how I sit.

I also played PayDay 2 for days straight when I had a nice stretch off from working. I did it using a controller on the One X. It got to the point my hands and wrists hurt so bad, I had to stop playing. I thought the pain would go away but it didn't. Typing and gaming was very uncomfortable. I did reduce my game play to games that didn't require such intense finger movements but I still was uncomfortable. I ended up going to a doctor and they said I probably had carpal tunnel syndrome. They told me to wear one of those wrist brace things. The problem has mostly gone away after months of not pushing my hands and fingers to work hard while gaming. I still get the feeling sometimes and occasionally have to take something OTC for the pain. Not often though.

I'm 34 btw. I hate to see what might happen when I hit 50. I'm not giving up gaming though. I'll get surgery and resort to other means of easing the pain if I have to before I give up gaming.

I use my gaming time for my relaxing time.  And since I dont get a ton of that (1 hour a day max) I enjoy the not moving much.  Staying active when not gaming would be key here.  Now before kids...Id game for 18 hours straight, call lists (MMO's when expansions come out and raiding) etc....Id eat canned spaghetti O's and Fiber One bars like they were going out of style (ate a whole box once and paid the gut price shortly after).  I remember pulling my calf one time skipping towards the kitchen for some food during a long gaming session..it was laughable and horrible all at once.

If all you do is sit at a computer for hours on end, it will be much more beneficial for you to exercise, drink water, and eat properly, than it will be to get a massage.
