Gotta college buddy who lives close to  Microcenter, so got great prices for 4770k and Asrock Extreme 4 board.  Tired of waiting on AMD for update to FX series.  This is my first intel cpu since the pentium D!! Sorry for pic (sent from cell).

They also didn't show the 9000 series CPUs and the Hawaii GPUs until very close to release time.

AMD almost never puts the good stuff on a projected roadmap it seems.

They should put their mentality on their roadmaps first. What theyve done between phenom & bulldozer is just hilariously stupid. If they would now focus only on a better architecture and mainly IPC and not clockspeeds they should be able to hurt Intel hard or even destroy them.

Intel probably has some Krakens of processors that won't see the light of day at a good price until AMD threaten them a bit. Bring it on I say.

I just built a new system with the Asrock Extreme 6.  As always I recommend downloading the drivers from the asrock website.  They are easy to find and there were a couple of updates in September that will not be on the disc.  If you do install the drivers from the disc, for the love of life do not choose the "install all option".  You're going to end up with a bit of bloat that will be a little unintuitive to uninstall.  Also, wait to install the USB 3.0 drivers for last.  Hope your build goes well.

I think the problem they had with K10 (Phenom) was that the power consumption couldn't be scaled, so they had to come up with something (disappointingly) different, or we'd probably be back in the 140W TDP X6 range even with process shrinks.

Well Intel makes their own chips/wafers so they dieshrink anytime they want but the problem with AMD is Global foundry who makes AMD's chips and they're slacking like hell to shrink their process.

I heard Excavator will be another 28nm node. This has me worried.
