Fitting a 2.7 height card into 2.5 height clearance

Foef_Yet_Flalf

I have a card arriving in the mail soon that I didn't realize until an hour ago is actually 2.7 PCIe slot units in height. The case that I've already put hours into installing and cable managing can only support cards with a maximum of 2.5 PCIe slot units. I really like the card and the case. The motherboard I have supposedly has an "extra-durable" PCIe slot. I'm unsure if I should try to fit in this card which may damage both itself and the motherboard, or refuse the parcel, initiating a return.

Does anyone have any advice about whether or not 1/5 of a PCIe slot unit makes a difference here?

The only issue is the case.  It will not fit if the specs of case says 2.5 max and card is 2.7 without some serious DIYing on that basement in the case or switching course to a verticle mount.

Looking at pics of the case, that nub thing on the top of the basement will really dampen efforts as well.

The "nub" is a removable addon, but I see your point.

I've looked at some vertical mounts but it doesn't seem like they'd work with this case.

Correct, as they're mostly meant for ATX cards.

If you're REALLY determined and you're using a front mounted AIO for the CPU, you might be able to mod the case and put the card vertically in the rear 120mm fan position with one of @Mnpctech's vertical brackets.

Test fit the gpu before making your decision. Fractal design Nano S maybe a better alternative, if you really must have that gpu model.

Wow, that bracket looks really cool. I will have to keep that in mind next time I want to do a SFF build.
In the end I opted to return the oversized card without test-fitting and get the Zotac Super Mini RTX 2070, which has plenty of clearance below and behind in my case.
