Surveillance recordings don't need to be high capacity as they are recorded in low resolutions in black and white most of the time anyway. But I would imagine with these HDD's they would be recorded in 720p in colour. Recording 24/7 takes up a lot of space on a hard drive as you would imagine so lets say a cafe has 5 of these HDD's which could probably be on loop for a month and than the video is wiped after a month, for the next month. After which the video can either be deleted or transferred to another storage device. At the moment lots of places don't use cameras or anything so this could help smaller businesses to keep themselves more secure. You should value my opinion as I work in a restaurant that has had some break ins in the past. We don't have surveillance because it's too expensive but this could help. Or in a while will help even more.

 

THe NSA are not interested in this type of thing. Cost is not a factor to them as they just leach off the tax payers income. They will just buy WD Reds as and when they please. I believe they have the biggest data center in existence but I could be wrong.

I've had terrible luck with their Green drives in the past. I've had four of them fail on me and even the replacements that I got from WD still failed on me.

that's a good question, they might be just rebadged Green drives for all I know.
