Are the CX-M series PSU’s good, bad, or just ok?

MuunManVII

I’ve been scouring the internet to find the right 500 + watt PSU for me, under 80 dollars. I was recommended by a friend the CX-M series, but was adamantly told on a discord server to NOT BUY THE CX-M SERIES, but to instead buy the CX series. Well the CX series is pretty much out of stock everywhere, and is not showing signs of coming back soon. I took it upon myself to do some personal scouting and found many forum discussions and blog posts talking about the poor quality of the CX. So I decided that I’d look around about the CX-M. Well it really seems like nobody in the world can agree on the quality of the CX-M series. I’ve seen people saying it’s too loud, dies within a year, etc. I’ve also seen people recommending it like crazy. I know the difference between the grey and green labels as well. I’m just desperately asking somebody to tell me, is it good, bad, or just ok? And if you could explain your reasoning as well, that would be swell.

CXM is solid, the CX just got a refresh in 2017 so they're a little better. Functionally I haven't noticed any difference between the CX450M and CX550/CX450s I've used. No issues with them, CX450M even handled a 980 Ti (stock ofc lol, I didn't push it on that small of a power supply) just fine.

Sounds like they're being a bit alarmist.

Yes... besides CX-M's modularity, the CX is better.  But if people make statements like "DON'T BUY THE CX-M SERIES" and the CX is not available, then that may push someone to use something arguably worse, like an EVGA BT series.

Would a CX550M be ok for this build?
