I like Linus, but I don't really like his voice.

We're all born flawed. Does that mean we should just stay that way, and expect people to blindly accept it?

Some people are born with deformities, or physical anomalies that make it hard for them to accept themselves. Of course, an annoying voice is not that extreme of a flaw, but I would argue that great or small, it is our duty to do what we can to better ourselves.

His voice isn't flawed, it's his voice.

Maybe explore with a therapist about the possibility of you having a form of OCD.

So you have an issue with some aspect of yourself - you should probably see a professional to work on that.

But if you do it doesn't mean someone else does, Linus likely doesn't care about his voice at all, doesn't consider it a flaw and has no reason to do anything about it. You're projecting your own problems on others.

There's a difference between bettering yourself (knowledge, skills, relationships, etc.) and accepting things you cannot change (physical traits for example).

Physical traits can be changed, and in many instances, people do change and it's for the better.

Morbidly overweight people working out is a prime example, because it directly affects their health.

But some people are also born with deformities, which prevent them from achieving self-confidence or self-love. You can find many testimonies of such people who've been through plastic surgery and who felt much better afterwards.

If someone feels bad, they decide to do plastic surgery and it makes them feel better, good for them. But this thread is the equivalent of asking someone else who's perfectly fine with themselves and doesn't even know you to do plastic surgery becasue YOU don't like how they are. And the only answer to that is "WTF, go away"

What is better or not is an entirely subjective thing, though. Would Linus think that him going to some speech-therapists and whatnot in order to change his own voice was "bettering himself"? Most likely not. It's not his duty to better any aspect of himself to suit your tastes or needs better, it'd at most be to better himself to suit his own tastes and/or needs better.

That said, I disagree even with the whole idea of betterment being a duty in and of itself; I decide for myself what I want or don't want and the only duty I accept is the one to please myself.

Maybe OP needs to go to an ENT specialist to learn how to hear differently in order to better themselves?

"hate" is a strong word. You sound as if I outright disliked the channel and made an account just to start spewing slurs on the forums.

Sharing a feeling of irritation is not inherently bad. Besides, there are actually some things he can do to dampen the effect: there are vocal exercises you can do to change your voice pitch, and without being so radical, just speaking more calmly would make it more bearable.

Listen, I understand that you dislike my thread, but I would really appreciate if you would stop using the word "hate", because this is really not what it's about.

So instead of hating you're demanding he change the way he is to suit your taste....

Personally I think that's just as bad tbh.

Okay, yeah, some things can be changed with enough money. If people chose to do so in improve their self-confidence or address their own internal struggles more power to them. They should not, however, be asked to do so to please OTHERS in their life, which is effectively what you brought up in this thread.

You completely missed my point and the fact that you're still trying to defend your comments says a lot.

I hope you treat the people in your life better than you treat people when hiding behind the anonymity of the internet.
