Transition service is down so WUs can't change state, once that is fixed it'll run through. I'm hoping it'll be fixed in the next few hours.

@leadeaterI can take care of the remaking 54,000 we need in NumberFields (Javelin) to over-take the Czechs for 4th Place. There’s no other threats behind us so we might as well get everyone else off Javelin and onto Marathon or Sprint.

Just some backhand calculations, but our 6th place in the overall standings is pretty much the best we can get, right? Even if we beat P3D in the Marathon?

Sounds good, other problem is adding new systems now means I don't see the effect until after 8 hours which is 2 hours after my stated cut off. What I added could just stay on Marathon though and I switch to Sprint with systems that have suspended work. 2nd and 5th respectively would be nice.

Think so which is why I'd like 2nd in Marathon as that is the only decent goal that is reachable now, no top 5 overall this year without some other factors that fall our way, not that I even know what they are but I'm not holding my breath.

With IBER broken I'd say yea, if it's not possible to gain points it's wasted compute at this point until the issue is fixed and it clears the backlog before the event ends

How efficient are mobile CPUs in a purely Watts/performance vs say a xeon of the same era?

OK. Once I see what the Javelin stats are at the next update I'll likely pull my 6-GPU rig off Javelin which will free up 12 more threads for the Marathon and the remiaing 5 GPUs are all the 2070 Supers which should be able to complete the Throw and put us in 4th.

 

And once we pass 1.491M I'll pull the others off Javelin and move to Marathon

I've now managed to sneak my thread count up to 33 threads, all on rosetta. No short jobs for me though!

More, the lower you clock the higher the efficiency and laptop CPUs are binned typically rather well. This is countered by the actual reduction in performance though, you can be efficiently worthless lol.

Thats why I said watts vs performance, you clock it at 1ghz and it would be silly efficient, but not all that use. 

 

I was thinking this more as in, if you used the laptops motherboard bit without anything else connect, so gutted in other words. So it would include platform power. It's more a thought experiment, lets be honest, an older server would be the most real-world feasible option. Just having a bit of a laugh to myself tbh.

Google as done basically that before. Nothing wrong with motherboards on cardboard stacked high and wide for 2 weeks .

Oh I know people have done it, but in this crazy unrealistic scenario I am thinking if someone had access to cheapish scrapper laptops, yknow, slightly older, broken screens, ultrabooks with dodgy battery's or whatever. Pulling the board from than and stacking them in some fashion. Once again, I have no plans to do this, just a thought experiment.

If I ever found a decent source for devices I would probably try it for fun. But I wouldn't go sinking money into it. You do see a lot of old laptops practically given away...
