A Western Digital Home NAS transfer speed (HELP ME!)

Hey Guys I bought a Western digital 2 TB network drive a few months back, It's not running at the moment because when I upload large files to the drive "i mean my top file is 35 GB". So when I start the file transfer to the drive it seems to run slow like speeds down to 0 KB up to 18 MB so it does a wave form affect. Does anyone have any tips on how i can speed that up, or is that normal for something like that.

Do you have a model number? Does it use a wired or wireless connection?

 

Any mechanical HDD today should saturate a 1 Gigabit connection (~115MB/s). Have you tried transferring files to/from the NAS from a different computer?

It is a my cloud Home 2 TB and it is wired to the router. the router is connected wired to the windows desktop. yes i use a mac over the wifi and i get the same speed maybe a little faster not to much.

So I did a quick search on Google. Apparently this device is Linux based with the underlying filesystem formatted ext4; which is good, no problem there with max file size.

I suspect you're running into a media error writing to disk. You might need to run a FULL diagnostic to scan every sector of the drive.

with the my cloud home it seems like i can't do any FULL diagnostic to the drive they say you can with the my cloud drives not the my cloud home drives.

Interesting. Perhaps with the Home edition, you can't run diags, only receive pro-active warnings about errors through the linked on-line cloud portal. Basically the unit sends stats to the linked online cloud, and from their it will e-mail you if an error is found with the device. Here's what WD has to say about that.
 

My Cloud Home – Disk Errors: If you receive an email from the My Cloud Team or your mobile device displays a message stating "Disk errors were detected on your disk"this means that the device needs to be replaced. Use the instructions from Answer ID 8 noted in our FAQ to get a replacement unit.

 

My Cloud Home Duo – Disk Errors: If you receive an email from the My Cloud Team or your mobile device displays a message stating "Disk errors were detected on your disk" this means that one of the drives in your My Cloud Home Duo device may need to be replaced. Use the following steps for the replacement process.

•  The error message will indicate which drive is the problem, Disk1 or Disk2.
•  Use the following section "RMA - Replacing a Drive" to remove the drive in question
• .The drives are numbered. After removing the top lid, the enclosure has a number embossed into the ledge. When looking at the unit from the front of the device,Disk 1 is on the left and Disk 2 is on the right.
• Use the instructions from Answer ID 8 noted in our FAQ for the RMA or replacement process

What i found out is the only way to get faster speeds on the drive is to use the Public portion of the drive that is used only by the network, but i ran in another problem when i try to connect to the drive from my mac laptop but i was able to figure that out, so that was a some what of a easy fix after a hour of investigating on the internet. 

Now the Private portion of the drive is for the cloud storage the speeds for that portion go by the speed of your internet connection, I mean the speed i have from my IPS are nice speeds.

So, for a good thing now i know there are no error on the disk to make the speeds so slow on the drive. I see how they set up the drive for noobs like me.
