Hey guys, currently I have an iPhone 6s and I absolutely hate it. It was the worst phone I have had in years and I totally (with out a doubt) regret my decision. Recently I have been looking at the Samsung galaxy a10e. Is this going to be a better option then an iPhone? I don't really want to break the bank on this purchase. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We can't just decide if android or iOS is better for you, its up to you and what you prefer. If you had an iPhone and hated it, the new ones are going to be similar so I'd probably go with an android.

What you said was quite reasonable. I just want to know what other people think, so that I can read some experiences. Other then that, I totally understand this is very subjective :D

How long do you want to use the device for? Apple provides about 5 years of OS updates. Most Android devices your lucky if you get 2. Then who knows how long they will provide secruity updates for after they decide to give up on OS updates. The best Android expirence I have ever had was with the OnePlus 3T. I would imagine that the Google Pixel phones would also probably be good, as they will have a better update potential as they use stock Android vs the modified versions most companies use.

I myself have owned 5 Android devices in my life and 1 iOS device (iPhone XR). My favorite phone is the XR. But if dont like iOS then Id probably suggest looking at Goole directly for phones or maybe OnePlus. Never been fond of Samsungs devices.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Thankfully, Android has options for all budgets, and an experience to match. And with launchers, you can customize the OS a fair bit too.

I'm currently on a Moto G5s+ and it's a capable budget device, but dated. The bezels are huge, camera is average at best and while it can run games, they can take a good while to load.

Currently I'm waiting for the Moto G Power to drop in North America. Seems like a solid all-around device for my budget.

If the bezels weren't so big on the Pixel 3a, I might have been tempted to go that way.

The Samsung A50 is also supposed to be a very capable budget device, but I really hate Samsung's bloatware vs stock Android.

My best advice is check reviewers that have used a device longer than a week.

What didn't you like about an iPhone, what did you prefer with an Android phone?

If you like a more stock Android OS, look into Motorola, or Nokia. And if you don't mind getting a used or previous model Pixel phone, the Pixel 3 is a very solid phone with a great camera.

Of course an iPhone is going to be faster, but also you'll be paying twice as much.

Here's the question: why do you hate it?

If it's because it feels slow, doesn't last long on battery or takes so-so pictures... virtually any modern iPhone will take care of those problems very easily.

If you don't like it because you feel iOS is restrictive... well, get an Android phone.  But not the Galaxy A10e -- you'll probably be complaining about performance and other hardware limitations almost as soon as you get it.  You'll be much happier with an S10e, an S10 Lite or something similarly mid-range.  Just remember that OS update support is much worse on Android than it is on iOS, so you might not get more than one or two major updates in your phone's lifetime.

The A10e isnt a good option. If you could tell me your budget i can help you. Anyway in the $110-125 range i would consider a Xiaomi Redmi 8A. It has a very good battery life, decently fast for everyday tasks and light gaming, but the screen isnt that good. Otherwise consider the Redmi Note 8 priced at $150.

Why aren't they good phones? What's wrong with them?

They do way more things right than Google with their Pixel lineup.

Because actually, they are VERY good Phones, especially for the Price. And below 500 bucks, it's really hard to go past Xiaomi if you want a good value phone.

Are you sponsored by Xiaomi or something? They’re not good phones.

Man if i had all the money i wanted i would go for a s20 ultra or a foldable phone. I think that under $500 xiaomi is the best. If you can find a new $120 phone better than the 8a and $150 phone better than the redmi note 8(note 9 coming so the price will be even lower) then i will agree with you that im sponsored by them. Even in the $300-450 xiaomi shines. The redmi 9t pro has great cameras, battery, oled screen in pair with $600 premium brand smartphones and is one of the most supported phones by developers. Chinese != Bad quality.

It only has 1 speaker and the resolution makes the SoC chug in games.

Sound also comes out of the earpiece, and the G90t is almost as powerful as the sd845. The gpu only struggles in 1080p HDR in pubg, which is a poorly optimized game. In COD you can play the game maxed out.

So you'd buy a phone that costs 2x as much as it should or a gimmick... Are you actively trying to make people not trust you?

I said if i had all the money i ever wanted and didnt give a damn for the price.

In the 350-400 I'd buy used and I wouldn't buy a phone for under 300 these days. You lose too much for the extra what 30% you'd save. Though you can get a iPhone 8 for under 200.

You would buy used. I wouldn't.

Why is OLED automagically good for you? The Note 8 Pro has an OLED screen and it's flat out crap.

The note 8 pro has an IPS display. Get your facts right. Oled is a requirement for me above $300. It saves battery and midrange phones have way better displays than they did 2 years ago.

8 minutes ago, Lord Vile said:

Is it amped or not though?

I dont think so. But in person it does look like a very good ips display.

Any benchmarks for that?

Plenty of indian people on youtube.

You asked, you do the work. If you dont know the capabilities of the phone, dont compare it to the other used ones.

No iphone's price comes close to the $130 samsung a10e. Im just making suggestions.

Lets go with the Note 8. It runs a midrange SoC from last year, 3GB of RAM for the base model, the 6GB I'd personally be comfortable with on android is reserved for the 128GB variant, Camera is reflective of the price, same with the display, the "Pro" model advertises 84% of the NTSC colour gamut which has never been used and is quite frankly embarrassing. It only has 1 speaker and the resolution makes the SoC chug in games.

And yet for it's price it has some of the best Specs you can find.

If you tell me, the Note 8 (or Note 8T) is bad, then tell me a better Device for the Price, that does every thing you mentioned better.

Wait, what? the SoC is from last year? Oh my god. How's that? Could it be... that this whole device is from last year?

At this point i don't even know if you're serious or trolling

I chose the Note 8T for my GF, since her Galaxy S7 Edge broke. She's perfectly happy. No performance issues, 4gb Ram / 64gb Storage is more than fine for her. Camera is fine, she has no issues with the Display. I would have, because it's IPS instead Oled.

But otherwise, you get ALOT for the Money.

We got the Note 8T for 145€ instead 180€~, because there was a -20% deal going on.

But lets say 180€: Can you name a better device for the Money?

Of course, used ones don't count.

Aside from maybe Realme/Oppo, you can't get more Specs for the Price than with Xiaomi. Not with Samsung (especially not with their second class exynos SoCs), and by far not with Apple.

And LG/Sony are irrelevant.

But let's go with the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, from last year's perspective, that today still costs 400€.

You get pretty much a 2019 Flaggship with minor disadvantages (no IP68 for example, no Wireless Charging), for now 400€. 450~ last year.

The specs competed with a Galaxy S10+, Oneplus 7(T) (Pro) series, etc.

I can answer the Question for you. No you can't:

- The SoC is still the best you can find for that price.

- The Camera is still the best you can find for that Price (especially if you install GCam)

- Storage / Ram is still the best you can find for that price (Nope, you're not gonna find really more for that. Anyway, storage/ram upgrades are 20 bucks. Base model doesn't interest anyone.

- Display: What's wrong with the Display? You didn't say one single bad thing about it. Samsung and Realme can feature 1080p Oled for like 20-40€ more. But that's it. 1080p IPS is fine for <180€.

Edit: Redmi Note 8 Pro has an IPS screen, which has been confirmed from every Reviewer. Sadly.

Sorry for having to say this but..

The fact that you accuse someone for beeing paid form Xiaomi because he recommended one...

The fact how you answered my Question...

The Fact that you actually believe the Note 8 Pro has an Oled screen, because there is a Mistake on Xiaomi's website...

Show me 1 thing very clear:

You are not very informed about Smartphones at all. You have your Opinion about something you don't seem to know anything about, and you even get attacking towards someone, who doesn't magically have YOUR opinion.

That's sad :/

That's a Sentence i can agree on.
For <200 Bucks you HAVE to make compromises. You're just not getting any top class Flaggship specs.

but still, for VERY many people, it's simply enough.

They mostly use basic stuff. Calling, browsing the web, Social Media. And for stuff like that, those sub 300€ phones do a surprisingly good Job tbh.

My point is at this price you're not going to get a good phone, at least without fleecing someone on ebay. I coulg go buy a FX8350, board and RAM for £30 it doesn't make the config good because I can't put together something better for the same price.

It's still from last year. On an OS that's nearly 2 years old, it'll get 10 in the summer and be done. The SoC still chugs in games.

Again just because it's cheap doesn't make it good. The 6S is supported until at least September. We still have no idea why the OP doesn't like it. If it's anything to do with performance a £100-200 phone will not solve the issue. In the 6 months between now and then the wise move would be to save up and trying to get a phone in the 300-500 price point.

Again it doesn't matter if it's cheap, just because it's better than other things around it doesn't mean it's good.

Looked at reviews and the only mention of display tech is by a reviewer I haven't heard of before. And it's a pretty weird they have AMOLED it rather large bold writing on the specs page so even if it is IPS can you trust a product o a company that's advertising products with specs that aren't correct? Plus it is an LCD panel that's even worse as more accurate LCDs are cheap and 84% of an archaic gamut that's never used is god awful. Plus only being 500 nits. That's even worse.

You missed the whole point. OP needs a cheap smartphone. I suggested 3 and said why. You dont like them. Suggest another one if you can and list the pros and cons. Thats it.

You could also consider a few other phones by lesser known brands (relax these are manufactures that can be trusted, such as xiaomi, whom which produces 150 million+ smartphones a year)

Recommendations:

Top: Xiaomi Note 10 (Under 450 brand new on amazon) Why? Great camera (nearly as good as the s20 ultra's, with similar specs, like the monster 108 megapixel camera, for comparison, the iPhone uses a 12 megapixel) design, battery life (5,260 mah battery, one of the best in the world), 8gb of ram, 128gb of storage

Cons- It uses a snapdragon 730, more of a mid-ranger when compared to the last year flagship 855, but still a very good chip.

Runner up: OnePlus 7/7t, pretty much the s10e but with a 'better' camera, bigger display, and a larger battery. Pretty much a sexier s10e

Samsung: S10e, at least for the price. Not a very good value option, but it is a Samsung, which guarantees a good warranty, build, and troubleshooting.

Apple: iPhone 11 pro. Literally a iPhone X, with some extra features. Not recommended.

Why go android? You get to pick and choose you price and features, You get so much more customizability, and you can find these great products devoid of any type of 'manufacture tax,' what you pay extra for the brand.
