DDR3 VS DDR4

What are the Differences between DDR3 and DDR4 RAM?

I would like to know about the speeds and Price differences between those.

 

When will DDR5 come out?

I heard that Samsung will release it in 2022.

ddr4 is newer, faster, more power efficient. What exact differences do you want to know about?

For the average consumers DDR3 and DDR4 are just different slotted memory modules, ie a DDR3 module cannot fit on motherboard that supports DDR4, and vice versa.

 

Otherwise, DDR4 dimms can be found in higher capacity, support higher frequency, lower latency, better power efficiency, etc.

 

DDR5 is just speculation at the moment, no confirmed hardware support, no manufacturing, really it is barely a blimp on the radar... other than 5 comes after 4 lol.

also ddr3 isn’t supported on newer platforms.

 

ddr5 will hopefully come out late q4 2020 or early q1 2021, so if you decided to buy ddr3 now, you would be running the equivalent of ddr2 in 3/4 of a year.

yea, ddr3 hasn't been used for a while, and probalbly hasn't been made for a bit aswell.

No it isn’t yet it was supposed to be released next year, and as far as I know, sk Hynix is developing it, not Samsung as you said earlier

Yeah for the most part only DDR3 sodim memory is being produced, not sure about standard DDR3 production, likely just old stock being sold now which is why pricing is higher.

Some sought after DDR3 will retain some value, just as any top line hardware would.

 

At release time, DDr was expensive as was 2 3 and 4, expect DDR5 to be pricey at release time as well.

 

AMD will aim for DDR5 on HBM or something like "close memory" something along that line. Trying to beat Intel to the table with DDR5 options first. AMD has beaten Intel in this race before, won't be a surprise to see it happen again.

DDR3 was released in 07, the first prototype by samsung in 05. 

Clocks standard where 800 through 2133 Mt/s effective 400 - 1066mhz.

Timings ranged from 5-5-5 to 14-14-14 depending on frequency, obviously getting looser at higher speeds.

I had a decent set of Mushkin RedLines that would do 1100mhz (effective) 9-10-9-27-36 2T. Ran them on AMD FX platform.

Yeah ahaha, likely to sell outside of the North American/ European markets. i often forget that tech that is considered a few gens old here is considered high-end hardware elsewhere in the world, especially in developing countries.
