What is the speed of this old processor?

I was looking through my old tech drawer and found this old CPU and I’m trying to find the following things about it:

  • Speed in MHz or GHz
  • The socket type

I know that the pins are a little bent but I’m wondering if it’s worth trying to fix.

It seems this is an old Intel Celeron from 2001.

1GHz Celeron. The clock speed on these chips is printed on the top.

1000/128/100/1.75v means:

1000MHz clock speed

128KB L2 cache

100Mhz FSB

1.75v core voltage

On the bottom there's the name of the chip and the SKU (Celeron and SL5XT, which you can key into cpuworld or intel ark.)

Considering that no one has made a laptop that can adequately cool the i7-9850 to prevent it throttling, looking to overclock the thing is not very advisable. You'd be better trying to undervolt it.

The coppermine core really maxed out around this 1GHz mark. I've rarely seen them over 1.2-1.3GHz. Wouldn't bother.

The socket 370 CPU can be overclocked, but even if you do overclock it the performance would suck compared to modern processors.

As for your laptop cpu, you usually can't overclock much, and your cpu performance and boost time is limited by how good the cooler inside the laptop is.  Often the cooler is shared by both cpu and video card, so if you use video card a lot, the cpu's performance may be reduced because the cooler is not powerful enough to keep both cpu and video card running at maximum performance for long periods of time.

You actually can sort of overclock the i7-9750H, by 400Mhz so it can turbo to 5Ghz, but the cooling is never going to allow it to work.

That's unusual, normally when you have two coolers you have heat pipes from GPU and CPU going to both. Like on mine

The closest to my age is the 8088 and M68K chips. Pretty much anyone born around this time probably had a NES, SMS, XT, or one of the other 8-bit PC's at home.

I have to say though, even though the '88 and '68K came out in 79, you didn't really see anything using them until 1984 (Tandy 1000/PCjr and Macintosh respectively.) Compared to today where a chip is usually announced a year before they're available.
