What instrument are we all playing?

So I'm curious to see everyone's music set-up be it electronic, your guitar collection, anything of the sort. I'll have mine posted at about noon due to currently being at work.

does protools count as an "instrument" ?

using protools to create music has no skill involved in the respect of playing a musical instrument, but you sure can create a ton of electronic noises

I politely disagree, I'd say that those who create electronica and EDM type music are talented simply in different ways than your typical guitar or bass player would. So I would say protools does indeed count as an instrument if you are using it to create that kind of music. Either way this is a post to celebrate musicians of all kinds.

Pretty good at playing the iPod.

In school I played 3rd trumpet. I wasn't trusted with any other number & sometimes was the only 3rd trumpet.

I now take lessons for fun in Piano & singing.

I know a bit on how to write music. My prefered DAWs were Garageband and Reaper. Cubase is too complicated. $300 spent on Cubase but I use the free trial of Reaper hahaha.

I can tootle around on just about any instrument. But I can't actually play anything. I run live sound as a side thing, so I'm the guy helping you be heard!

I mix very fairly, for the genre, and for the room. So some instruments will be mixed more like a fill rather than being very loud. I also like my bassists, so I keep them loud but not over bearing. I also like to confirm with a particular instrumentalist to make sure their instrument sounds the way they want. If they want me to pull some of the high mids (as an example) I'll do it. You can make a bad band sound good if you make them happy and mix them right. I also love adding a fuck ton of reverb to a particular instrument to alter the dynamic of a particular song. As an example, I regularly mix for a country/blue grass band and they often do the song "Ain't No Grave". I will add a lot of reverb to the main acoustic guitar, who uses his copper slide for the whole song. Really changes how the song is perceived and makes it feel kinda like an old fashion western, in a way.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop there. Just keep practicing, because otherwise if you fall out of it, it's near impossible to fall back in (personal expirence).

I used to play the drums in bands back in my 20's, also played a little bass guitar and regular guitar (very poorly)... Been considering getting an electronic kit as I do miss hitting things... you'd be surprised how therapeutic that can be.  :)

Used to play bass & guitar.

Had a Thunderbird 4 string & Hartke 60w solid state amp which I owned for about 15 years until I sold them both last year. Also had an LP Junior & an acoustic with pick up, what model I forget. But sold them all last year after not playing for a few years. Mostly devastated about selling the bass as i'd had it so long & it was in a gorgeous tobacco sunburst.

Been wanting to play again after seeing Violent Soho at Good Things on the weekend, those guys have the energy & love for music I once did, plus it's style I always have liked to play. Shame the real world gets in the way of doing anything real & fun regarding music.

I thought Mick Thomson was back to playing Jacksons.. I am so lost as to why there's a Schecter guitar with his signature frets on it when i've never heard of him using their guitars or endorsing them

I bought with the custom inlays on it. He does only play Jacksons and I thought for a time ibanez but yeah that was something custom the previous owner had done.

Well I'd respectfully disagree with that. "EDM" has usually very distinct characteristics and yes it has many sub genres but that doesn't mean it's not a genre by itself.

It's kinda like saying classic is not a genre,  but a  "container".

Sure you can say that as your opinion but it's not the normally accepted nomenclature.

EDM (and J-metal)   for life  \m/

Spoiler

I don't currently play an instrument,  but I dance (cover dances   I think you could call it) - it has basically the same effect on me than playing an instrument ,  it's just something to express myself and be "creative".

I used to play guitar,  synthesizer and "Atari ST"   ;)
