the forms decline

i just came back the form after a long absence and i seem to remember the form being much more active specifically the tech support section. Has any one else noticed this as i used to be able to get answers with in minuets or at least someone willing to try  but now i feel like there are much less posts and less responses. It may also be the season but i dont know. i also not shure if there are analitics but im curious if this is just my memory or if the form is in a recession

As an active member for a couple years now, I have not noticed this decline you speak of.

At least not as radical as you describe it.

 

What I have noticed in the troubleshooting section is that people are generally tired of people giving very little to no info when they describe their problems. People just making a thread titled 'Help!' with the thread content being 'my PC doesn't work, what do I do??'

Those sorts of threads usually don't attract many people..

Then there is the other end, people providing way too much info, then getting mad at people trying to help that they didn't read 4 paragraphs of text...

 

What has always been the case is that easy topics attract the most attention. Stuff like 'my 3000Mhz memory is running at 2133Mhz, please help!'. Things that can be solved in one to three sentences.

I'm not an old member, but I browse the Troubleshooting subforum a lot, half of the time I don't wanna answer because they don't provide any info, and/or if I ask I don't want to see them pull a "you already have enough info, now help me or else"

 

Also, those people with all caps kill me.

My solution is if the information that is needed isn’t there I ask them to provide it.  It generally works.  All caps is straight up bad internet manners.  A lot of the posters are kids though and you can’t expect perfect manners from them.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

The forum has changed over the years as many who signed on during the kitchen set days have gotten more busy.

I know certain sections for me have died.

While I enjoy it I'm tired of arguing with people about what makes my build better for the money. after taking 30min to find out a budget and use case.

 

There needs to be a larger push more more information in OG posts.

I agree I think people have just gotten older. The forum hasn't changed a ton just more younger users relative to your age. I looked back at my posts and I was asking noob questions like many others here. Except the responses were typically better and it was from a smaller community so people's personalities showed more.

Huh,  it's a typical "newb" mistake tho   people are nervous their PC is possibly toast, they'll forget about that... Just ask specs and they usually provide it right away.

Number 2 isn't specific to just this forum. Even at work i've learned to only ask one question at a time since if i ask multiple things they only respond to either the first thing, or the last thing. Which isn't helpful when i need all the information.

That might be part of the panic factor associated with the first point.  Sometimes yes though.  I recently ran into one of those where there was almost no chance of there being an answer and tried to answer that it might at  least  be possible, even though their initial post wasn’t and got grumped at for not simply having a name on hand.  That’s the internet though.  I don’t remember the internet ever not being that way.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

it is forum not form

 

it seems that linus tech tips forum has lost plenty of users

there is only so much a forum like this can give someone, so those people move on

 

there are analytics on the back end of ltt

 

season wise, yeah i mean the children are in school now, but they get a massive break pretty soon for the holiday christmas season and new years. i doubt it will pick up during that time, just more of the build suggestion type posts. most every post is the same, it doesnt matter whether it be moving a computer, answers to gf/bf life questions, medical questions.

 

to me less people would indicate maybe the silly facial expression video's is tiring a lot of people out, also how many videos can linus make that does not overlap, or state the same information over again. i liked when linus did more unbuilding of laptops, but again how many of those can a channel do. tech quickie is alright for newcomers, but more indepth information is still required cant get that from linus. i dont even know what 2 cent jay is doing these days on his channel. i am sure linus has a firm grasp on whats happening, maybe even some consultants spoon feeding him info.
