Alternative to Windows Media player?

TechyBen

I will not mention Microsoft. They are the dirt now to me. :P

But, as functionality has been taken out from an update to Windows 7 (thanks for hiding that one as a "security update" MS... lots of love here... I'm loving you back by also "updating" my service with you... to Linux!), for now, I could do with a media player and CD ripper that can name tracks/albums for me automatically.

What's the best audio/cd playing software currently for Windows?

Winamp.

Could also use VLC.

Does VLC do the "get album info form the net?" I don't use it for music, but have for video.

Is Winamp even a thing anymore? :D

WHat version were you using?

I use 2.95, works just fine and gets out of the way when needed.

Its called Winamp and its the absolute best. Works nice sounds amazing and looks good.

All the others are just inferious. Try it and you shall see im right.

Yes, but the CD database is fracked. Ive not yet found a solution.
But then again last time i put a CD in was couple years ago, but i can understand the need.

Yeah, hard crashes on my pc, locks up, and I have to reset. The uninstaller also FORCES a reset without warning. Seems a fail on many levels. :(

That so does not sound like Winamp...

Are you sure you got it from trusty source?

That sounds weird.

You did get it from http://www.winamp.com/ right?

Yep.

Foobar2000 works great. Has LOTS of options, and even leaves the metadata online discovery open and adjustable to the user in a menu popup (not even hidden in an ini file. :P ). THATS user experience.

I just need it to work. I use Spotify for voice commands (phone connected to PC App) but only when using cloud music...

Aimp is nice for playing. For music library organizer - MusicBee - it can download cd cover from internet and has lot of other options.

My advice - install few programs and choose yourself.
