Accidentally screwed through some radiator fins!

So I just screwed through some radiator fins.... not much, I used a long screw, screwed through a fan to reach the screw hole on the other side that leads to radiator and missed it and screwed through radiator fins... am I “screwed”?

the fins are just fins, there’s no fluid there. If you went through one of the water channels or bent one closed then you would have a problem.

Would I have had to push pretty hard to pierce one of those? It went through with very little resistance

Don’t see why it matters. You can rip them all out if you wanted.

No it just decreases surface area a little

If you burst a pipe (the long thin, but thicker than the fins smooshed flat pipe) you are screwed.  If you bent a fin out of place - you may lose .000001% of the cooling power.  If its where the screws are located - that usually doesn't get the best airflow anyhow.

lmaoo, you're not screwed :D. Like others have said as long as there's no leak you're fine. I was really rough with one of my radiators and gave it a tonne of abuse (that's what happens when you getto mount it in a case I guess) and it's all good. I'm sure there are waaaay more than a few bent fins on that radiator :D.

i did the exact same thing...drilled through the whole fin exactly where the screw hole was placed...the thing is..i can't properly see if the water pipe wqs damaged as well..cause the corner of the radiator is somehow covered...

my issue is...if it doesn't leak when i start the pc with the cooler ouside the case...is there a chance it will leak in the future? is the pressure inside high?

If it were me, and it didnt leak when I put water in it and put pressure to it (weather just blowing through the thing or hooked up as a loop) I would just run it

post a picture, should be easy to tell if there is concern for damage to a cooling channel.

 

I guess while we're here, @Mercuryaces hows it held up after three years?

I had that happen to me as well. It was a a thinner rad so I did piece the pipe and it leaked. That's why I now prefer the brands that have the little piece of metal under the screw hole so that doesn't happen like Corsair (others may do it as well).

no need, amazon took it back and i've got a Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360, not as fancy but the temperature / noise levels are great
