5700XT TUF review released

Oh dear. The first of custom 5700XT to get bashed is the MSI Evoke, and it's just because of small improvement in cooling performance compared to the much cheaper reference blower cards and the competing Pulse. Then there's the THICC II, a meme card that performs nothing like the hype (even worse than the Evoke, noise normalized) and cost a lot (was $450-480, now can be found at $410). Now we have the TUF, the first card to actually run its GDDR6 above temperature spec (not even the reference blower gets to that point) out of the box at 104C (spec is 95C, max), still a massive space waster and costs more than the current THICC II.

 

Now I understand why the TUF is this much cheaper than the Strix in the same form factor. It's because Asus filled it with a big bag of saline solution.

 

Conclusion, the only TUF thing you should consider when building a desktop are the X570 TUF boards.

I really wonder how this would shape up with some thermal glued heat sinks onto that craptastic little metal bracket for the vram.

I feel like asus is one of the lesser gpu board partners, they are way too expensive, the rog cooler looks outdated, is it an 1070 or an 2080??...

and their cheaper models are look bad, and are still more expensive than eg sapphire or gigabyte

Buy a 1060, say it's a 2070

 

2080 does have new fan design, tho that didnt help cooling all that much nor change the looks noticeably.

Haven't seen the vid yet but I've reas elsewhere that memory colling is terrible and for a custom card.

Yeah. Though before those got out,I got the XFX THICC II and for a very good price actually. It's very cool. 

Now there's that THICC III 3 fan monster that's to come haha, I really wonder how better it will be.

I think THICC 3 is thermal improvement over THICC 2. GamerNexus Steve tested THICC 2, and he said the thermal is no good.

I haven't tested a ton yet, but I did game on it for a while in games at ultra and temps were rather good. Didn't do burn in tests for long time. Though it's definitely better than reference card.

You have thicc 2? I trust HardwareUnboxed and GamersNexus on RX 5700xt gpu reviews because these two guys save a lot of people spending hard earn money on shit thermal gpu and going through refund process.

Yeah. It was the cheapest custom card, reference was a no go. Saw there's a improved BIOS for it too, for the first batch of cards. Definitely need to have a good airflow though. To not choke the card in the case. 

And ye I like both of those channels.

The cooler with three fans gives people an impression that the card runs cool while in reality it does not.

how so? Same powerstage config as Aorus Elite, just worse controller.

it has the same powerstage config as the Z390 Hero. iirc he praised Asus for using a VRM that is cheap and good.

How we know all these aftermarket cards don't exhibit similar behavior for green camp? Green camp doesn't show hotspot or vram temperature iirc.

Nah it's the X570-P that's the same as the Hero, tho that means even less reason to dislike the TUF

same powerstages and slightly more on them on the TUF no? i call them the "same" as they are rather similar performance wise (and design wise)

50% more on the TUF than the P. Performance wise tho is the same until you push some really high current draw CPUs since even the 3900X is well within 8 powerstages' efficient range.

the extra powerstages are essentially marketing. a little issue regarding effiency when you can only turn on 2-3 powerstages on at the same time. iirc the TUF actually performs worse in some tests than the P, tho its low load scenario with more than good enough temps.

I did a few times on HWUB, GN videos and AMD/Nvidia reddit but no luck. Reddit one even got downvoted to hell but i kinda expected that.
