Targeted ads and intrusion of privacy

As of lately I've noticed that things I talk about in conversations whether online or in person are showing up in ads. Not only is this disturbing, but it's an intrusion of privacy that I didn't agree to, and it's something that should not be going on. I do understand selling information, but the ads are same or next day and are from private conversations.

Funny, enough this video was also just recently recommended to me also... He explains the basics of interconnectivity with mobile networks and their way of identifying on the global network.

Same problem on my phone but not on my computer (adblock ) although I disagree about selling information. In my country we can say no to that.

They do have the right. All the things you search on google are google's property. they have a right to that information. So they actually have an algorithm set that takes your searches and everything you do on the internet and incorporates it into the ads it shows you. I get a ton of nVidia and Razer and ASUS ads. Same goes for other browsers.

So when you talk to someone in person, you get computer ads based on what you talk about?

You did agree,When booting a phone for the first time you are forced to agree to the terms of use in order to use your phone,

Terms of use are legally a contract,so when you press "Agree" they legally can do mostly whatever they want.

 

In the old days on the internet ads were not customized and did not spy on you.

Now days they use customized ads and selling your information to maximize profits.

 

That's what happens when you worship and treat money as a god,

Greed is really nasty.

These aren't ads on things I Google search, they're ads from personal conversations and text messages about my health and private life that isn't supposed to be on the internet so no, they don't have the right to listen on in that.

You literally said that when you talk to someone in person, you get targeted ads.  Where are these ads, but on a PC?

Or are you saying that a conversation you have IN PERSON but in range of a device that listens (like Alexa), then prompts PC generated ads when you browse online?

 

If so, you agreed to this when you activated the device.  You realize she HAS TO listen to every word you say so she can be there when you say "Alexa".  Quite impossible to not.

Actually no OP is right. It has been demonstrated and reproduced people speaking around their phone when facebook was installed or open and they will get ads on their computers. Not really that hard to do. People observed a small amount of data that's encrypted being sent to Facebook's servers pretty consistently. It was a very small amount like 500Kbs but with machine learning you can use a super low bitrate for audio capture in order to figure out keywords like dogfood. Then with fingerprinting and using your IP they can deliver the ad to your computer

I disagree

I prefer targeted ad instead of some random crap. I am fine with selling my information because it doesn´t hurt me in any way. I am using gmail already so it is not worth hiding.

I used to be on this side, and part of me is on that side- I don't mind ads for things that I search for. But when there are ads about personal things I talk about to my family and friends that's where I draw the line. I don't like that information being sold off.

Forgive me, but I have seen other people make similar claims before (other forums) and then at some point in the thread it comes out that they did search or do something that triggered the ads. I am NOT saying your aren't telling the truth, I am suggesting that you have forgotten about something that you, or someone you know, did that triggered the ads.

If your phone was processing speech to text 24/7 -or- uploading a continual stream of your microphone's audio for Google to do it on their own, your battery life would be nonexistent.

 

Not to mention that a lot of Android is open source and the parts that aren't are quickly reverse engineered or analyzed by communities like XDA. Something like this would obviously have come to light already if it was happening.

A couple years ago, I probably would have believed you, but after switching my desktop from Chrome to Firefox, using add-ons and whatnot to disable trackers, and occasionally giving off some completely inaccurate information in services like Gmail, my targeted advertisements have never been more inaccurate. If my phone is listening to my conversations, I have no clue where it picked up the idea that I want to start watching Korean dramas.

 

Targeted advertisements are just eerily good, and the moment you pickup the idea that your phone listens to you, you're going to start paying even closer attention to conversations and advertisements. It's in your mind.

CPUs are not spying on us,

Windows 7 is completely fine in that regard if you don't install the telemetry updates.

It's also possible to modify Windows 10 to be safe.

For browsers i recommend Brave,you can install extensions to enhance the privacy like HTTPS Everywhere,Privacy Badger,Nano Defender,Ublock Origin + Nano Defender,and Decentraleyes

In that case I'd call it an intrusion of privacy

 

I'm also fine with targeted ads if it is something that I actually have interest in, not something when I just wanted to quickly search something up.

If that is true,how the data is beings accessed by the CPU manufacturer?

I have never seen communication between AMD or Intel servers to any PC unless you are updating a driver,I use WireShark for analyzing traffic.

I have never seen Windows XP,Vista or 7 (With no telemetry updates) communicate with Microsoft servers unless i update the OS or the time and date with "Internet time",

Unless you install other Microsoft software on the OS.

Brave might be a botnet,but it doesn't mean it spies on you,As for the extensions i listed - those are not really botnets since everything except updates is stored locally.
