Case needs

Go to solution Solved by TVwazhere,

If you have the bottom of the PC elevated with feet, you could hide a power button "under" the case (kinda like the mirror opposite of a top mounted power button)

I'm designing a computer case at the moment and want your opinion. Does a modern computer need front i/o? Or anything in particular that you couldn't live without on the front of the case?

Power button. lol

But in all seriousness, I kind of hate front IO. I always pick my motherboard to have enough connections to never need to use the front IO. Plus I feel like it always ruins the look of a case. Not many cases look good with it. Please don't put aux or mic on the front. I'll stab you haha

I fix computers for a government that is garbage. I'm also a certified security professional according to Comptia

Using my paycheck on computer parts and alcohol and since this is a tech form I'll help with computer stuff I guess

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you think you would be able to live without a power button on the front?

Good airflow (mesh front), but not too loud. Kinda a inbetween is nice.

Thats my plan but i wanted to keep it clean so I was wanting to know if most people would care if they lost all of the front i/o

As long as the power button is accessible it shouldn't matter IMO... unless you have the case itself less accessible (like under a desk or similar), then you would most likely need the button on the front.

Well where is it going? Top front. maybe. Bottom front? Is it even accessible? I like to think about options like where do people keep computers. Under desk, on desk, behind monitor, on shelf. What kind of limitations could come from me putting this button here. In what situation would having it here be an issue?

Definitely needs headphone jack, microphone line in, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, possible a type C, a FireWire port, eSATA port and at least two 5.25" bays.

Joking aside, you do need to put a power button somewhere on the case, or at least behind a panel where it's easily accessible.  Unless you set up the BIOS to boot from keyboard.  The problem with that is that pets, and in particular cats, will regularly turn the PC on at night.

Well it would be on the back of the case if i could get away with it but I hadn't thought about the back being inaccessible. Thanks for your help.

Didn't even think about people having cats lol. Maybe a slightly hidden panel would work. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd recommend making it a concave circle like most power buttons, or some sort of recognizable shape/texture since you'll need to feel around for it, but I think this is your best "hidden" but still relatively easy to access solution :)
