amd ryzen 5 3600(stock speed) reaching 90 degrees after 5 minutes of gaming?

hi all, my new ryzen 5 3600 is heating way too much when i game. Am using the stock cooler with an ambient temperature of around 25-27 degrees. My cpu is idling at around 48-50 celsius and when i play the witcher 3 or apex legends my temperature is usually above 80 and spikes up to 90 degrees for a few seconds and goes down again even though i only played for around 5 minutes. (i play on ultra settings). Are these temperatures normal for the stock cooler? i opened my case's side panel and i didnt notice a change in temperature so i doubt its an air flow issue. Is my cpu defective? What mid size coolers do you recommend that will actually lower the temperatures to a safe limit? is deepcool gammax gt good enough to lower it by 20 degrees(the gammax is similar in performance to a cooler master 212).

rest of my components;

gpu: gigabyte rtx 2070 super 8gb

M.b: aorus x570 gaming elite

ram:2*8 3200mhz g skill tridentz

Remount your cooler - it shouldn't be reaching more than 70-75 with the stock cooler and settings. Is the fan spinning and plugged in?

yes, its spinning at full speed and i already tried remounting the cooler. Am just confused now am not even sure if getting an after market cooler can reduce the temperatures am getting to a safe 70 degrees.

what games do you play? i dont have problems with running doom, dota 2 and cs go. But apex legends, monster hunter and the witcher 3 cause overheating.

The 3600 stock cooler is pretty much Intel level junk. Even with the Prism from a 3700X put on my 3600 I saw temps into the 90's. Your ears will thank you for getting a better cooler.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

Stock. My workloads might be more strenuous than gaming though.

Hardly, the wraith Stealth does a far better job than OP's results, Ryzen systems I've built for not suffer from this kind of temperature problem. There is definitely another issue at hand. My roommate's rig is an overclocked 2600 with a prism on it, does not face temps in the 90s either.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Agreed, I have the with stealth on another machine and on a Ryzen 7 1700 and it works just fine.

The stock cooler for the 3600 is shit. Idc what anyone says you can’t tell me different. I own the cpu and thought it was the mounting, I re mounted with new paste and it was still sky high when gaming. The cooler it comes with is junk.

I ran it on stock settings, with and without pbo and auto overclock. I put a Corsair H100i rgb platinum on it with auto overclock at 4.25ghz and the highest I’ve seen it hit is 55c while gaming for hours on end.

No cpu mobo or ram atm

Everyone defending stock Zen coolers is talking about 1st and 2nd gen. 3rd gen coolers ARE shit. My 3600x cooler was a slab of aluminum wit no copper. I knew this going in from watching reviews and went straight for a hyper 212 with no regrets.

On a budget? Mid-range-ish, how is the arctic freezer 34 esports duo where you are? I haven't actually run one on Ryzen but I have a couple on Intel systems. I have a Noctua D9L on my 3600 and that is adequate, but not one for value. My 3700X has a cheap Coolermaster 240mm AIO on it, which has a bit more headroom.

A 3600 gets hotter easier than 2600. Try running a 3600 near ppt with stock cooler and tell me it doesn't get too hot.

1600/1700 cooler had some nice metal to it. 2600 cooler was roughly half the metal, and I think it is the same cooler as bundled with 3600 without digging them out to compare. They cheeped out. If they kept the 1600 cooler it could be ok. I had high hopes for the Prism but regretted putting it on the 3600 as soon as it booted. Too much noise, not enough cooling. Nice RGB otherwise.

I have positive experience with the Arctic Freezer 33.

It's dirt cheap and keeps the wife's i7-8700 cool as a cucumber. 4300mhz all day everyday never gets past 60c in real world usage.

TLDR: Screw the stock cooler in ALL THE WAY.

Hey guys, noob here but had the same build with B450TM and R5 3600. I had the same issue gaming at 90C. For me, the issue was I didn't screw the stock cpu fan all the way in. The screw with the spring in between is a stupid design (couldn't feel it going in, that's what she said) but after I made sure the screw wouldn't go in anymore putting in a good deal of pressure (she liked that), 90C gaming went to 80C for CSGO. That's still hot and I know these chips are designed that way, but since I didn't know that the issue was have a NH-D15 on the way so we'll see how that fares. Besides the temps, I have had no issues with my build so best of luck boys and gals!

The wraith stealth cooler sucks. I used a 3600 with a stealth that was like that, I used a 3600x with the prism on it and it was fine. I am currently using a 3700x with the prism on it and using pbo and auto overclock it doesn't get anywhere near that high when gaming
