Upgrade before retirement.

Ok so, in a few months i'm getting some $$$, and I have decided to switch to Mac. My PC that I use daily is an HP Pavilion P7 1037c, with an X4 645, 20 GB RAM and a R7 250 2gb. Before I retire it as my daily driver, i've decided to put $50 to a final upgrade to it. For that $50 should I get it a GTX 660, or a Phenom II X6 1045t? 

I mainly want to upgrade it so that when I switch to mac if the iMac I get won't be able to handle a new game I want, I can boot up this PC. Right now it can do CSGO at maxed settings and get consistent 60fps, and the new UT at 40fps at medium.

The 660 would be the much bigger upgrade, that would be a better buy.

If i were in that situation i would go for the GTX 660. The X6 1045t is not that much of an improvement over the X4.

Another partial vote for a 660, though I can't help but feel that you could score an HD7870 for the same money which is slightly better in a majority of titles.

Edit: that being said, I will say that the extra 2 cores were quite useful in GTA V. Of course this isn’t overly relevant as the OP’s GPU is holding it back in said game anyways

Well, the 7870 is a bit more, if I had the budget set aside that'd be enough for a 7870, it'd go for a 670

Never stated your location, but here in the US the cheapest 7870's on eBay tend to be 50-60 bucks. Could be worth a look.

I am in the SouthEast USA. For me so far AMD's drivers are pretty hard to navigate and weird with their support. With Nvidia any GTX card past the 600 series can do just about anything.

I will agree that AMD's drivers can be a little bit idiotic to figure out at first if you've never used Crimson or later, but once you get used them they're not all that bad. And while yes, anything 650Ti and later can still be usable now (hell if you don't need the latest drivers for whatever reason, the higher end Fermi cards still do surprisingly well), no matter how you split it the 660 just isn't quite to the level of the 7870. I'm kinda anal retentive about bang for buck so I always kinda bias towards that if possible.

Yeah so am I about getting good ptp. The HD 7870 sounds good, but i'll need to hunt it down to get it to the right price.
