Cap framerate at 60 or 61 for best frame timings?

BattleToads

So if you're playing on a 60hz monitor, should you cap the framerate at 60 or 61 for the best frame timings? I've heard arguments for both.

You should use V-Sync Triple Buffered actually.

Frame rate caps/limiters tend to be terrible for the experience.  They will give you what you ask for, on average, but there will be no synchronization between the screen and said frames, so you'll get tons of stutter and tearing.  The most smooth experience, depending on the game and the frame rates your hardware is able to hit, is to either vsync (if your framerate is above but not much above the refresh rate of your 60 Hz monitor), or to uncap it and let it run wild (if it is able to run well above the refresh rate of your monitor, and/or you have a high refresh display like 144 Hz).

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

People have said to set it to 59 or even 58fps.  Better worth just leaving it alone.

If you have G-Sync or FreeSync,

Then you limit 2-3 FPS below the refresh rate.

You disable V-Sync in game and absolutely turn off Triple Buffering.

Simple and easy ?

If I had adaptive sync, this would be a non-issue.
