Firstly, this SSD tier list is mostly applicable to new purchases.

Secondly, most of the OEM SSDs aren't available to general public from online/offline retailers. The only way to get those SSDs is to get a prebuilt PC from a system integrator.

That's an OEM version of 980 Pro.

Will think about adding OEM SSDs in the further iterations of this list as it will consume a lot of time.

But still I think adding OEM versions of SSDs is not a good idea. It's just like googling the part number and finding out which SSD it is and searching that SSD in this tier list.

Currently I am working on adding SSDs that have been released recently.

Its a pretty good drive. It was in tier B in previous iterations of this list. Now it rests happily at tier C.

Regarding the Samsung SSD 980  (the 980 that isn't the PRO)

On 3/20/2021 at 12:49 PM, VEXICUS said:

Both the SSDs have TLC NAND Type. The Samsung one uses a Proprietary Samsung Pablo Controller.

Both of them are DRAM-less and both support HMB (Host Memory Buffer).

I see that Anandtech did a full review of the SSD 980 from Samsung.  Is it's placement in the list pending?  Or I would presume it'd be a Tier B at best since the 1TB model performs pretty well for a DRAMless with TLC.

You can go with the MP600 and be fine for the most part.

The MP600 is the nerfed version of MP600 with QLC NAND. MP600 Pro is their flagship SSD with a Phison E18 controller.

Hi goodday! so I am thinking about on getting a new Main storage for my PC and i am just mostly doing heavy gaming and saving video clips on my pc.

and I am torn between these options. (I am well aware that theres not really gonna be a huge difference between these choices in terms of gaming but im just really concerned on their individual performance in the sense of Temp/Durability.)

A Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 1TB at 165$
or
Aorus Gigabyte Gen 4.0 SSD 1TB (No heatsink) at 185$ (Tho this is hard to find.)
or
Aorus Gigabyte Gen 4.0 SSD 500GB (No heatsink) at 120$
or
ADATA SX 8200 Pro Gen 3.0 1TB at 135$ .
or
SAMSUNG SSD 980 1TB at 137$

Do any M.2 drives go above 2 TB? I've looked into a few of the ones on your list but so far I can't find any that do.. It seems I might go for a 2 TB 980 Pro in this case as the corsair costs twice as much. (It's a second SSD besides a 970 EVO and it will be replacing my HDD for currently-playing games storage since it makes too much noise 😞 )

Maybe going for an A2000 for 120$ wont be so bad as a game-folder only.
