I like how the gold colored drives are SLC, and there are no SLC drives on the list.

@VEXICUS, first of all, thank you for making this list. I have probably checked it five times since I first found it. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Second, I would like to suggest the Crucial P2.

Instructions for frustration management:

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

May I know why the WD Blue 3D is not the same tier as Sandisk Ultra 3D? Because some reviews say that they are identical SSDs but with different sticker/brand.

They are in the same tier.

I know, I just find it amusing that it's in the legend even though it's unlikely to ever be on the list.

I don't do OEM drives since you can't get them in retail. For example, the Xbox Series X/S uses the SN530 which is an OEM SN550 with a smaller form factor (alternatively it can use a CL1, or the E19T + hynix TLC from the Seagate expansion), which means it's replaceable but...you can't get that FF in retail.

Dont see TCSunbow drives here? They are pretty budget, but preform better than the kingston a400 and similar drives due to the (unknown amount) of dram cache on them.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Which TC SUNBOW drive are you referring here. There are some TC SUNBOW drives in the tier list, you can check them out.

Are you only adding newer ssd's? What about older / popular drives that may still be frequently considered on the used market like the Samsung 840 series?

If it's not too much clutter, I think it would also be useful to include alternate OEM names for drives like the Samsung PM981, etc for easier Ctrl + f'ing.

Where do the SK Hynix SH920, Toshiba Enterprise THNSNH512GCST, and OCZ Arc 100 stand?

If you're interested in doing so, external ssd's may also be an interesting addition.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Sure, will be adding older SSDs soon. As I discussed with colonelmortis, I am working on external SSDs right now and will be added soon.

Those SSDs that you have mentioned above comes with a barefoot 3 and LAMD controllers, which are DRAM-less and obselete by today's standards. Still I would rank it in tier E.

I used to own an ocz arc 100 drive back in past. It was known for its high failure rates.

Edit - Added a few external ssds

I'm honest, I've never been a fan of tier lists, but unlike the PSU and motherboard tier list, I can actually critisize this one properly.

At best these tier lists stop someone from making a horrible mistake, but for the most part they do nothing but influence people's buying decision in a negative way.
Tier lists do not stop you from spending too much money, nor do they help you to find the best deal. You end up with an SSD that is probably at least fine, but for the same money you could've gotten a SSD that performs 10% or 20% better. An example are the 850Evo, the MX300 and MX500 which are all within the same tier for some reason ?!

Additionally there are no linked reviews.

To me this entire thread is therefor basically useless and I highly advise to not base your buying decision on this list and instead on individual reviews.

Sadly good reviews of SSDs are somewhat rare nowadays, especially after Allyn left PCper. 👀
