Which oscilloscope should I buy?

I want to buy a oscilloscope for little electronic Projects like creating VGA signals or simple arduino Projects.

Requirements / Nice to have:

  • >7" Display
  • 200Mhz / 1GSa (?)
  • FFT (pretty much a must have for me)
  • Function Generator (or should I buy an extra Function Generator? what's more budget efficient?)
  • 4 Channels (Nice to have)
  •  VGA/HDMI output (would be really nice)
  • Decoding of SPI, I²C,...

My preffered budget is in the range of 400 to ~700€

If really needed and or there are features which are worth it I can spend up to 1200€.

The Siglent SDS1204X-E comes in at the upper end of your budget (659€ excl. VAT RSP, but you can find deals), and ticks most of your boxes.

7", 4 channel (2x2 shared), 200Mhz, 1GSa/s, FFT and SPI/I2C decoding.

It does not have a function generator but I'd buy a separate device for that anyway.

Also does not have a VGA/HDMI output. I don't think any of the affordable devices do, but it does have a built-in web host that allows visiting the scope's "web page" from any PC connected to the network and control/view it.

We've got a couple of those in the lab as daily drivers to free up the expensive stuff and I can't really fault it for the price.

Batronix has Siglent SDS1202X-E with 5% discount (339 euro+vat) : https://www.batronix.com/shop/oscilloscopes/Siglent-SDS1202X-E.html

It's 2 channel, 200 Mhz, 1 GSa, 14 Mpts, 7" lcd (800x480) .. no vga/hdmi out but does have spi/i2c and others decode as standard.

Or you could trade bandwidth for channels ... there's Siglent SDS1104X-E with 4 channels / 100 Mhz for 429 euro + vat : https://www.batronix.com/shop/oscilloscopes/Siglent-SDS1104X-E.html

I don't think just 100 Mhz would be a really big deal, it's enough for arduino projects and even vga and other things.

TME.eu stocks GW-Instek and Hantek oscilloscopes ... they're less known brands but maybe they have the features you need. Worth checking reviews for them.

ex

Hantek DSO4048B  (80 Mhz / 4 channel) for 387 euro + vat : https://www.tme.eu/en/details/dso4084b/digital-oscilloscopes/hantek/hantek-dso4084b/

HANTEK DSO4104C (100 Mhz / 4 channel) for 475 euro + vat: https://www.tme.eu/en/details/dso4104c/digital-oscilloscopes/hantek/hantek-dso4104c/

HANTEK DSO4204B (200 Mhz / 4 channel ) for 489 euro + vat:  https://www.tme.eu/en/details/dso4204b/digital-oscilloscopes/hantek/hantek-dso4204b/

+1 for the siglent 1202xe. It'll be the scope I'll pick up once I have the need. We have the little bother 1100 series at work and it's great.

EEVblog did a tear down of the 1202xe and it looks really solid.

I think I will buy the Siglent SDS1104 and use the rest of the money for a function generator.

Thanks for all the advice!
