Would an air conditioner kill my rig?

Literally UK is like devil's anus atm.

 

I want to buy a cheap portable air conditioner to get temps down a bit.

 

Would it kill my rig?

If the AC unit points directly into the PC, there's a risk of condensation. Otherwise, cooling the room won't hurt

It's also doubles up as humidifier which got me concerned.

Condensation will kill your PC. Avoid direct air from the AC.

You can also use airduct connecting the pc exhaust to outside.

Why would you need to cool and humidity at the same time is beyond me. I guess now people will want a dehumidifier with their heater lol.

In my case it will not work because every single side is an exhaust.

Get a proper AC not the portable one.

Or at least get a window AC.

The heat part needs fresh cool air from the outside, or else you'll be generating hot air from the AC.

I wasn't planning on getting anything like this, but something like this with ice packs:

 

 

I don't know whether I should just get a fan.

Those are pretty crappy units. You'll get cool air for several of minutes, and that is all.

This is like using an lunch ice pack with a fan. They are reviews of this online.

 

Personally I would save your money for an actual window A/C unit, or if you can't, a portable actual A/C unit with dual dock, like the video mentioned posted above.

 

Of course, ideally, and the most efficient is getting central A/C (or depending on where you live geothermal system (in sum: pipes that goes down in the ground to circulate the ground cool/warm temperature to your home, which central air system is used to distribute. You still have A/C and heater system for extreme days, but the load on them is reduced a lot)), but that is of course another league...)

PC is right next to the window and access to the window isn't easy so that's a no.

 

If I can't get a portable one then probably a fan will have to do.

Oh right... Well I guess a small unit like you found will do, just don't expect much, and expect to do multiple trips to the freezer to swap the, well, what is essentially an ice pack

Yeah, literally want to buy it only to survive the heatwave. Papa bless my fridge with ice dispenser.

That thing is garbage. Evaporative coolers only work when the air is dry enough for the water inside to evaporate, and even then they won't make that much of a difference. You'll just end up with a warm gross humid room.

 

You could legit make that with some sponges, a dish, a PC fan, and something to support the sponges so the fan can blow air over them. (The sponges will also need to be able to reach the dish to suck up water from it.)

Don't get that, it's a waste of money. Get some fans. If the heat bothers you, pony up for an air conditioner. I've only had to use mine maybe 5 days so far this summer, but I consider that well worth the $200 investment.

I just did a price conversion of the unit you were looking at, for 20$ more Canadian (so I guess: 12-13 pounds more), you can get a window AC unit... and that is considering the "on special" price from Amazon UK....I mean the A/C unit will be crappy and loud, but hey, perfect for a small room (door closed), not too heavy to put on the window due to its small size. I

 

My point is, the unit you are looking at, is fairly expensive... (that said, probably many people in England are rushing to get those and the price increased as a result)

I already said it's not possible. PC is blocking the window, and so are the monitors. Portable one is a must.

I already said that I don't want anything expensive, yet you still tried to convince me. Ain't gonna work buddy. Already picked best answer.

P.S that picture there is also not exactly an AC either, it just uses a fan, cold pack and a filter.

It would be very difficult to move fully crowded Thermaltake X9 and a desk along with 3 ultra wides monitors on them in a tiny room. (If not impossible!)

Get a used refurbished AC from repair shops. Some old window unit can last forever if maintained properly.

Remember your not only fighting the nature but also the PC which is a source of heat it self.

Build ur self a mini peltier AC.

It wont be great, and its certainly no good to reduce a whole rooms temp, but it will be good enough to blow cooled air directly onto you to keep you more comfortable. They are super cheap to make as well.

Just search on youtube for DIY peltier AC or DIY TEC AC
