I think they just do 1080p. If they can output 4K, it's just gonna be some shitty upscaling, like what the 360 did on 1080p (only natively supported 720p).

Both consoles support 4K, however it's unlikely they will have any games which will render natively at the resolution. As far as we're aware, both consoles are also limited to 4k at 30Hz, however Sony have previously hinted that this may not be true for the PS4. Only time will tell on that one.

Strictly speaking not true. Xbox 360 did have several 1080p native games - but for reasons beyond my ability to process stupidity they rendered the interface itself at a measly 720p.

Meanwhile PS3 rendered the interface at 1080p. And more of its games were 1080p too, such as Gran Turismo 5 and 6 for example.

When you think about it, it makes sense. This way the presentation of the game was smoother, in most cases, and helped to save some of those precious 512 megabytes of RAM.

They support 4k as much as a typical sub compact car seats a family of 5 comfortably.

...You mean a bike and a family of 17?

Edit: I found this little gem shortly after posting this

The ps4 can't do 3d movies, although it may come in a future software update

As far as 4K the ps4 can do 4K video playback but not 4k gaming. I am pretty sure the xobx is in the same boat

To be fair the ps3 didn't always have a in game interface or ingAme messaging they how to massively overhaul the way the console uses ram and resources

Sony has already confirmed that the PS4 will get a patch for 4K video output but not gameplay. If my PC isn't powerful enough for 4K then I know consoles certainly aren't ready for prime time.
