If it was on time, it would have been here in December

FUKA U AMD

A months delay doesn't mean much, Shadowplay & GeForce experience remained in a dreadful buggy BETA state for a very long time.

Would rather AMD release a polished software stack rather than a turd to meet schedules.

Mantle is a very complex piece of software that both AMD & EA simply cannot afford to release in any less of an impeccable form.
For something as revolutionary as Mantle a few months of delay don't mean much in the final equation.

Work on it hard, polish it well and release it.
I'll be patiently waiting, BF4 is just one of many games to include Mantle which makes this a very exciting time to be a gamer.

If it was on time, then you didn't we have it last month, AMD?

It's really sad to see that the folks who are effortlessly mocking AMD for one of the biggest leaps in game development in the last decade are the same folks that will have a heart attack when they see a 280X beating a 780.

I feel like amd will deliver the drivers, you know Catalyst 14.1, as promised but they can't promise bf4 implementation of mantle on the same month but maybe I'm wrong. On another note, it seems like thief will be amd's demonstration of all their new tech: truaudio and mantle.

PS I don't know why R9 290x and 290 are the only r9 card that support truaudio.

This is correct, though I wouldn't blame AMD... DICE were too busy fixing their game, and they still should be!

Sure a 780 will win in Minecraft and the Sims, while the 280X will win in Battlefield friggin 4.

My point is Mantle will be in games where you will benefit a ton from the better performance which makes the win much more significant.

If you already are getting 90+ FPS the added performance wouldn't matter, but if you had 60+ FPS and now you  have 70+ it suddenly makes it possible to enable AA or even more eye candy.

The 290 and 290x are the only new GPUs in the lineup. The 270s and 280s are rebadged 79xx and 78xx series.  That is why they get Truaudio.

Yeah i know they are just rebrands but could amd put some effort and added truaudio support into 270s and 280s, i would love that.

Because except for the 260x, they are the only cards that are using the new architecture needed for true audio. Everything else is just a refresh

Finally my Santa hat doesn't look out of place

They would have to make different hardware just for this one feature, it probably cost them more than it is worth.

impossible. that would require a completely new re-tooling of the chip itself. so completely and utterly impossible without an entire refresh of the product stack.

<moderated>. Let's assume that the Mantle driver was released on time, DICE still would have delayed their mantle patch for BF4 because they are still busy trying to fix their fucking game, so you wouldn't be able to USE mantle anyway. There is no point in releasing the drive until a game that supports it is released, and in the mean time they have more time to polish the driver.

they can't add true audio to the rest of those cards, it requires a chip that is physically not on those GPUs and can't be added them without redesigning them.

Why do people feel entitled to receive Mantle now?

This is a performance upgrade that you are getting for free.

AMD doesn't owe you anything.
