lifetime of applied CPU thermal paste?

What is a lifetime of thermal paste,when is time to replace it?

My laptop is old, from 2012,really haven't used it to much.

Is is time to reapply new th.paste?

 

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with,and even if you think I'm rude or not polite,forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Lifespan varies paste to paste, but a laptop that old could use a freshening up.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

You only need to renew it if your temperatures starts to rise up, if the thermal dissipation is still fine there's no reason to replace it.

I know that but whole laptop is heating up,not just CPU.

The heatsink could be clogged up with hair dust and other crap.

There's a heatsink with heat pipes over the cpu, and potentially over the gpu chip and chipset...  and there's thermal paste between the heatsink and cpu and other chips.

But those heatpipes end up with another heatsink close to the edges of the laptop, so that air from fan can blow through the fins of heatsink and cool the heatpipes as well.

If that heatsink with fins and crap is clogged with dust/hair then the cooling performance suffers.

 

Thermal pastes only help improve thermal transfer, changing the paste will only improve temperatures by a few degrees. You have to make sure the whole ensemble is clean of dust and everything.

Then its just the laptop heating up....

 

Totally normal for laptops. Especially from 2012

Hmm I have other laptop with same CPU and it's temperature goes 20 C less.

So what's the problem.

20 C is too much for same CPU in different models.

The CPU is i7 2670QM.
