Two PCI-E's ? Really?

this it the third post ive done tonight on comp stuff and im always full of questions and this isnt a dupe.

 

on my saphire pulse vega 56 8gb it has 2 8pin connections and i have it plugged with 2 seperate power cables an its ungly as hell

i have a 750W EVGA GQ Gold Semi-Modular and i watched alot of youtube, mainly linustechtips and jaystwocents and they both always seem to use a seperate cable for each socket but im wondering would it be safe to use just ONE cable to power both sockets, they do have another cable on them but i wasnt sure so i put 1 cable per socket,

@Enderman even with its minimum a 750? whatabout the amps is that safe? ive never had a Graphics card with a 8 pin let alone two of them, ive only ever had "mid range" that only needed a single 6 pin

They put two sets of connectors on the cable for a reason.

@flibberdipper im aware of that but i wasnt sure if it was a good idea to do so, i can use 4 singles or 8 duals on plug wise, so are you saying i can use 1 cable for both sockets?

@Lilmilez1205 The only time you would need to use 2 seperate cables rather than one is in cases of XOC or cards so power hungry from stock they don't exist yet. You're fine to use one cable.

That GPU does not use anywhere near 750W.

check the gpu amp recommendation on the rail, see if it has enough for two

1 cable is fine, but there is a minimal amount of performance loss as a result due to signaling. Jayztwocents did a video explaining it about a year ago.

only GPU i have had issues using a single cable with was my R9 295x2 as it had a minimum amperage per cable requirement, Everything else has run just fine using one cable and the pigtail part.

I'm running the same GPU on a 650 watt Seasonic using single cable to both and no issues.  

 

Side note - Vega has power profiles in Wattman if you haven't checked that out yet.  By default it will be set to balanced, check out turbo or set a custom profile if you want to get the most out of the card.

Yeah. Vega doesn't pull near enough power to demand one cable per connector.

I feel like if they included two PCIe plugs on a single cable but you could only use one, that's a poor design choice because they should know someone's going to use one cable anyway. So it can be safe to assume that you can use a single cable for both plugs.

The video didn't really explain anything, but one of the comments in the video did. It may be because using two separate cables causes the resistance to drop, so there's less of a voltage drop into the video card. Since there's less of a voltage drop, this means less amps needed, which means less heat that would reduce the efficiency of the VRM.

Jay had stated its because of OHMs or resistance on the cables and not stuff he totally understands, only that there is a cause.
