I can't decide which card to buy!

Geoffery1234567

I spent the last week trying to decide on the best card, I didn't want to spend more than 400. I'm stuck between GTX 1080, Vega 56 or RTX 2060. What do you recommend?

1080 is the strongest. Vega 56 can be weird and run hot. 2060 has... low end RTX, not worth the money, IMO. In themselves, I think they're functionally equal, with the 1080 being just a tad stronger.

So; You want to look at specific models, their coolers, your setup etc. That'll make it much easier to pick one.

EDIT: I want to discalaim that I actually haven't tried RTX myself, but the demos I have seen have not convinced me that I need low-end RTX.

Secondary rig: R5 3600 // MSI B450i Gaming Plus // 16GB Gskill FlareX 3200CL14 // MSI GTX 1080ti Gaming X // Cooler Master V650 // Fractal Meshify C

Audio setup: Audient iD4 // Adam A7X // Sennheiser HD 650 // Sennheiser HD 25-II // Audio Technica M50x // Sennheiser Momentum 4

Wait for new AMD cards?

please do clarify gaming resolution, target FPS and games you play. We need the context.

I need a card now so unfortunately, I can't wait, id like to play above 60FPS at 1080 at the highest setting on games such as Rust, GTA V, Cyberpunk, Assasin's Creed, Doom .

Used gtx 1060(120$), 1070 (230$),1070 ti (290$), 1080(~370$) are good bang for your buck and will do 1080p all games no problems.

New the Rx 580(180$-200$) or 590(210-220$) should easily hit 60fps 1080 max settings in all titles except maybe gta 5 as its heavy nvidia biased so you would have overclock it a bit.

personally a Used 1070 or ti would be my choice you will always have above 60 fps at 1080p. Used Vega 56 come around 240$ but are kinda hot cards but are good overclockers with cooling.

Rtx 2060

Its new and barely under the 1080 plus you get Ray tracing which you can actually enjoy, check youtube.

I dont get why it gets a lot of hate.

People talk like navi is better, but it's over priced and way less of a value than rtx cards. I'm sad because I wanted an all amd build, but at the price navi is it isn't worth it at all. I'm not competitive enough to give a fuck about reduced input lag. There are enough modders out there to give you fidelity styles which with an rtx card you can add Ray tracing to.

I just moved from a gtx 1060 6G to a GTX 1080.. I found one for 290£...

Best purchase that I've ever made!

I'd say get the cheapest high end card you can find.

If the 1080 is cheaper than the Vega 64 where you live then go for it!

Forget about the 2060, useless RTX and check instead the 1660 TI

I'd wait for the new amd navi cards though and see what the benchmarks show.

You also have the ' super nvidia ' cards coming soon tm.

AMD 5900x, 2x16GB ( G.skill F4-3600C16 ), Radeon VII, Radeon 570,  Corsair 1200i , SSD 240/500GB, HDD 640GB,1TB,5TB, 1TB NVME. Lian li 011Dyanmic XL, big ass LTT mouse-pad & stealth water bottle

Check out AMDs road map. They will offer Ray tracing a lot sooner than the 5 years people kept saying ray tracing would be of value.

Look at new games set to come out with Ray tracing.

Ray tracing was dead first year sure, but it picked up real quick and we are now seeing it coming.

Navi on consoles will provide ray tracing.

Navi priced at rtx prices without ray tracing is a joke. Unless you find it's features worth it.

I'm not hating on amd because I want to. I do it because I have to. I wanted an all amd build, shit I waited 2 months and counting to build my next pc thinking I would get all amd.

Your 1660ti suggestion is great for savings. Since OP can't wait for July for the new super cards and reduced pricing I think that's a great choice.

There are 2 reasons why I say that ray tracing on the 2060 is useless

1; hardly any support with games and those that are well it aint that great if you look at the results

2; It's first generation and you take the weakest of the bunch. The next gen cards will have more cores that support ray tracing. What can the 2060 card do when you got the next generation cards coming out and games with proper support?

If you buy the card for ray tracing then you're better of getting the 2080.

Navi on console will provide a form of ray tracing, those consoles are released next year at the earliest. You will also be looking at a new generation of gpu's with better ray tracing capabilities.

2060 or 1660-without ti. The latter is far more cheaper than 1660ti, while providing nice performance.

The 2060 barely cost more than 1660ti, yet ~15% faster.

You don't have to turn on Ray tracing. But the rtx2060 is a very capable card. For 1080p 60Hz you'll be fine with 1660 though...

At least in my country, 2060/1660 are very good price2performance gpu, whereas 1660ti is way overpriced

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )
