I saw a video about ubuntu touch and they were using a galaxy nexus which is 3 years old. This shows me that they are not concerned on the project and they are working on it on and off. So I will not be overexcited on ubuntu touch but if it is a custom rom rather than an os that comes with certain phones, than it will be interesting.

they are mostly show casing it . they fail to reach their goal in kickstarter to make an amazing phone (Ubuntu Edge)

they licensed their OS to phones already - coming this year i believe

also the ubuntu touch works on many other phones also the nexus 4 - they are trying to get Mer to work which is a big boost to performance

from what im looking ath they are hard at work
