RX 580 8GB to 1660ti 6GB, an upgrade or downgrade?

My current Sapphire RX 580 8GB lets me play games like OverWatch at 4K, 60FPS.

 

Would the Nvidia 1660ti give me similar results despite having 2GB less VRAM?

yes, maybe even better when it's not vram limited

What is your VRAM usage on the 580 at 4k/60 (I don't even want to know what settings you're using).

 

If you're wanting similar performance, why the GPU change?

It'd be a small jump, the GTX 1660 Ti is marginally faster than the RX 590 which is only marginally faster than the RX 580.

I forget the VRAM usage, I need to turn on the system statistics display during that game.

 

the settings are Vsync enabled, 2xAA, lowest shadow settings.

 

Basically I want to get the most of out my current gaming build. Next year or so I plan to make a competent new build.

I’m tempted to get the RX 599 as well, there’s a special edition gold one at that.

 

My current RX 580 is the blue Sapphire one, love those LEDs.

Getting the most out of a gaming build isn't 4K/60, iMO.  I think you're sacrificing detail and higher FPS for a 4K standard.  

 

I think you'd have a better and smoother experience at 1080p 144Hz, especially with a competitive shooter like Overwatch.

 

The 580 would last longer for you as well I think.  Unless you're dead set on upgrading a whole new system next year, I'd get a 1080p 144Hz monitor instead of a GPU.

 

Of course I don't know the rest of your system either.

RX 580 to RX 590 does not make any sense to 'upgrade' to, the RX 580 overclocked already performs like the RX 590 at stock, the margins are extremely narrow and your gaming experience is likely to be much the same with either.

 

I'd consider the RTX 2060 ~ Vega56 ~ Vega64 for an upgrade if you feel the need for one.

1660Ti is a bit better since Overwatch dont use that much memory, but not upgrade-worthy better.

I wouldn't upgrade from a RX 580 unless it was a Vega 56 / RTX 2060 or better.
